For
calikali's
prompt-based mix meme:
A song that wakes you up in the morning.
Tricky, "Black Steel"I don't actually use music to wake up in the morning, but, hey, if I did...
A song you loved in high school.
Bush, "Insect Kin"I liked Bush in general in high school, particularly freshman and sophomore year. After that I started mostly focusing on female soloists for a while, for whatever reason. This was one of my favorites, and is lesser-known than a lot of their songs.
A song that mentions a dead celebrity.
Bauhaus, "Bela Lugosi's Dead"I know, that was a really obvious choice. Sorry.
A song you'd be embarrassed to listen to with your grandmother.
Machine Gun Fellatio, "(Let Me Be Your) Dirty Fucking Whore"I'd be embarrassed to say the band's name in front of my grandmother.
A song that MTV will never play in a million, billion years.
Current 93, "I Have A Special Plan for This World"Partially because it's 22 minutes long.
A song with a title that ends in y.
Heather Nova, "My Fidelity"I was glad to have an excuse to upload this after mentioning it in that last music meme I did.
A song that makes you crave something.
The Presidents of the United States of America, "Peaches"Whether it makes me crave fruit or girlsex kind of depends on my mood.
A cover song that you think is better than the original.
Concrete Blonde, "Ghost Riders in the Sky"See reasons why below.
The original of #8.
Johnny Cash, "(Ghost) Riders in the SkyOkay, I mean, Johnny Cash is The Man, and this song is a classic. But...I always felt, even as a kid, that a song that creepy and eerie shouldn't be arranged so up-tempo and fast as the original is. And Concrete Blonde's version is pondorous and haunting and deliciously creepy, yet still kinda cheesy in the way this song should be.
A song that reminds you of a fandom OTP.
The Protaganist, "The Sick Rose"Nine/Rose, maybe even just Doctor/Rose in general, all the fucking way. Now, this may look like a cheat, because this is just a song arrangement of a William Blake poem, and because apparently one of the BBC's websites for the show features this poem, so let me just say that I thought the poem was Doctor/Rose long before I heard this song version or heard about the site. It just so happens that this adaptation sounds like it could possibly be sung by mutated half-human Daleks, though, which makes it even more perfect.
You have been caught mouthing the lyrics to this song.
Shriekback, "Faded Flowers"Because not only is it one of my favorite songs, but it's pretty easy to sing.
A song that will always make you think of a movie.
Buzzcocks, "What Do I Get?"The scene where Enid is annoyed by Rebecca's conformity, and gets into serious punk mode, in Ghost World.
A song that should totally have fic written about it.
Clinic, "Goodnight Georgie"Because it's such a spooky ominous song. I don't know what fandom the fic should be in, or what it should be about, but it totally needs some songfic love.
A song you wish they'd play in elevators.
Goldfrapp, "Black Cherry"Oh, yeah, just hop into the elevator and go off to a lush happy dreamland until you reach your floor.
You'll stop listening to this song when they pry your MP3 player out of your cold, dead hands.
Rasputina, "Oh, Injury"Because it is that fabulous. Not just rather aching and wailing but quirky and science-fictiony and bizarre and wonderful.
And, bonus files 'cause I uploaded them and then for various reasons changed my mind about using them:
Heather Nova, "Avalanche,", which is sooooooooo Nine/Rose,
Concrete Blonde, "Heal It Up," which is sooooo Damon/Stefan,
The Chameleons, "Tomorrow Never Knows," and
Our Lady Peace, "Tomorrow Never Knows."
