They watch, breathless, as the ball flies through the air. They tug forwards, wanting to race and chase and knowing that there are others there on the ground who can. Knowing that they're a million times faster and stronger and they'd *win* the race. They would. They want to show their master that. Want to show him how much better they are than these prissy earth-bound mutts. They're pulling forwards, creeping along the ground. If they move slow enough then maybe they won't be seen...
The whip cracks around them and they whimper and whine and the earth-bound dogs look over at them with wide-sad sympathetic eyes. They want the race, the challenge, they don't care if they'd get torn to pieces by their hell-bound mates.
The ball flies again and they're breathless, forgetfull of the pain, pulling forwards again. They wait eagerly for the moment they are released on earth, one shining soul theirs to play with. Theirs to race and chace and tumble with on the ground. For now, they can only watch the ball fly.
