Honestly? Most of us were stuck on "did you call first to make sure he's home?" "He's an old man - maybe you should give him more than a minute or two to get to the door." and my particular favorite: "MAYBE HE'S ON THE TOILET!"
Kane does a beautiful lip wibble, don't get me wrong, but the situation was so cliched and out of left field it was hard to do anything but point out the gaping plot holes.
Sorry - don't have a whole lot of love for that episode. My rant on their over-the-line treatment of the mark is pretty epic too once I get up to speed.
OK, maybe I'm just too tired to process; all the mark-abuse seemed pretty much par for the course, but it's been a while since I watched any Leverage at all.
It was just so exciting (and yes, out of left field) to have such a sudden backstory drop. Although I did pass briefly through all of the above concerns, plus one or two 'holy shit, what if someone *else* opens the door... Apart from the toilet... that I didn't consider...
They did have a lot of typical mark abuse yes, but once they crossed the line into affecting her health and physical well being it really struck me the wrong way. I know it was supposed to be an Ocean's 13 shout-out, but the abuse that character suffered was at least acknowledged when the gang arranged for him to be paid eleven million dollars once the job was done.
Since this woman was the bad guy, we obviously weren't going to get the same resolution and the lack of it really rubbed me the wrong way.
I have to say, what they did to the mark in this one didn't bother me. Hubby worked retail for years, and what corporate assholes will put their workers through all in pursuit of the mighty dollar is outrageous. I had no sympathy for her.
But the Eliot backstory portion had me grinding my teeth. The whole "why won't my dad answer the door?" thing just seemed like a writer's need to give us woobie!Eliot.
