I have one second-year student who routinely wanders into the classroom (late) in a cloud of smoke. I always fan the air and complain about the “terrible smell,” to the amusement of his friends; but I’m not trying to be funny. The aroma is truly overwhelming. Drugs other than nicotine/alcohol? Does he get into fights? Could this be a result of a fight or two? Also, is there a school nurse who you can talk to?

I've never seen him get into a fight, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.... I was wondering about drugs, myself; when I googled tremor + teenager, I got quite a few hits for inhalants. "Real" drugs are very difficult to find in Korea, but I do wonder if he's sniffing glue.... I don't want to seem alarmist (I feel like a suspicious parent!), but many of the symptoms seem to fit.

Ah~ school nurse! That never occurred to me. We do have a nurse, but she doesn't speak much English. It's worth a shot, though!

According to the head first-grade teacher, this kid's father used to beat him, which is probably the cause of the tremor. Sad....
