First bit.

It’s easier to fall into step beside them than to fight it, really. Sam can survive this newest and most difficult lie because, underneath everything he says to any of them and every task he attempts to pick up without admitting that he doesn’t know how to be a soldier, is his unfaltering belief that sooner or later he will be able to go ( Read more... )

I am totally writing a WWI LOM fic at the moment 0_o psychic y/n?

Oh, Loz. It's beautiful. It captures that essence of world war literature - Regeneration, Journey's End especially - and it's Gene and it's Sam and they're in my A-Level reading list. Fantastic, I love it, and I mem'ing it immediately. And the slash, well, handled beautifully. LOVE IT. :DDDD

LOL YYYY! Win for us!

Oh, thank you so much, sweetheart. Also, Regeneration and Journey's End were really the main influences on this, yeah (the first moreso than the second, although I put in a JE reference during the edit today, hah). LOVE AT YOU XXX

So, I'm reading this again because my dissertation is on fanfiction and right now I'm writing about AUs and it reminded me of just how much I love this story (and there are way too many ands in that sentence). I never quite finished my WWI fic, it got eaten up by university, but it doesn't matter because this is quite wonderful enough to more than fill this fandom's quota ( ... )

Hello! Gosh gosh gosh, well, I must say I'd pretty much forgotten about this mad piece of writing. I had a bit of a reread when I got your comment and what really struck me was the fact that I deliberately wrote this, as you say, this deeply disappointing and quite abrupt ending, which is the kind of thing I so wouldn't have the nuts to do these days. I was a ballsier writer when I was sixteen, what a disappointment! Though it did take me for-fucking-ever to write this fic, if I recall correctly, because it took me forever to write everything then.

Anyway - thank you so much for your kind & unexpected words of loveliness! I FEAR rereading things I wrote so many years ago, but it's lovely to know that people still get something out of them & just, yeah. sweet.

How's the dissertation going, by the by? frankly, I'd love to read it when you're done.

Wow. You had a really big idea. And you have done it justice. This is so good; so believable. You've made Gene very true to character, with huge compassion for his men; he really comes across as the complex and highly intelligent character we see in the show. And it's a great story too. I really felt sad for both Sam and Gene being parted like that. This is a really good fic.

Thank youuuu! :D Don't worry, you said quite enough for me, old thing. ♥

The other stories were going to be more situation-based than historical, if that makes sense; for example, I was halfway through one where Sam woke up in jail in the past, with no idea what crime he'd committed. But actually that one was leading up to the Strangeways riots, so it was still quite, you know. :)

OHMYGOD this is just perfect. I think I love you.

Your style of writing is incredible and I am in awe. Seriously. A fantastic idea and so well executed it makes my heart happy.

Thank you! I am clearly massively over-excited tonight, but I just had a very physical reaction to your comment, some might even say a flail and, just, thank you. :D

I like that you have a cake icon to illustrate the handing-over of cake, hah! Awesome. ♥

Certainly a strange idea and of course, only you could make it work :P

The paragraph that begins "Something crackles overhead..." is just beautiful, too.

Bah, can never think of good things to write.

Aww Erin, you're lovely and I heart you. I'm in London tomorrow! Unfortunately it's with my rl friends or, well, Cathering (who you have met) but also a girl called Cassie, who's lovely but I don't know what she'd do if she met you lot.

Er er what am I talking about, HI ERIN xx

Aw, you're SHUNNING me. Well, tbh, it is most probable I would leap around talking about how beautiful Gene Hunt is and start acting out slashy scenarios with imaginary hand puppets.
Gene: I'm having hoops.
Sam: I'm having you!
Gene: Um.

Also, lol, am finally uploading borneo photos. So... just preparing you for the POST OF DOOM that will follow. In some days.

:D

I LOLED. Awrrrrrrrrr I want to SEE you it's been AGES, fucken Borneo. We need to have face-to-face conversationing about Life on Mars. And Gene.

Oh, Gene.

Anyway, now that my Cathering's living in outer London I'm likely to be about more often, so I'm sure it's only a matter of time until I hurl myself at your personage. XD
