Last night was one of the best nights I had all summer.
So Patrick and I drive around the ghetto of Winston, bored to death, and decide to pick a random town (within reasonable distance) from my atlas, and go.
And onward we go to Toast, NC.
Now Toast is a small town near Dobson/Mt. Airy. We take a few backass ways to get there.
One of which was SUCKADICK, Dobson.
The reason why I now call it SUCKADICK?
Because some cop saw us circle back around to get to a gas station we passed, and thought we "needed help". He was friendly though, in that "I'm a jackass and bored" way. Checked my license and registration and all that, and sent us on our way. I swear Patrick's bad luck in my car, because he was with me when I got my speeding ticket a few years back.
We found a nice little gas station that was open 24 hours, and stopped in to get some drinks to toast when we got to Toast. The trucker hat made me smile.
This place had some pimp ass old cars.
Yaaay Mayberry.
So we find another little gas station once we're about in Mt. Airy again, and sure that Toast just doesn't exist.
Patrick: "Ma'am, where is Toast from here?"
Lady in gas station: "Uh, you're in it."
YESSS!!
The only Toast sign we could find!!!
And we toast our Cheerwine and RC cola to Toast!
We figured since we were already in Mt. Airy, we might as well drive up to the state line. We pull into a parking lot across from street from the sign, shine the lights, roll down the windows and blast "what's my age again?" as we run and giggle across the street towards the sign.
I decide to drive up into VA a little to find a gas station that was open (it's 2:20 at this point) and buy scratch off lotto tickets. Sure, NC has a lotto now, but it's just not the same. I buy about 4 because Patrick keeps poking at my gambling problem.
And since we were already in VA, we figured we might as well head to the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was sooo cold up there. We drove for a bit until we found the scenic overview place, and then laid on the hood of my car (with my flashlight to keep checking for bears or deer to come attack me.)
This picture does the view absolutely no justice. It and the sky were the most beautiful things I've ever seen. I've never been able to see the Milky Way so clear before, or see so many shooting stars in like 15 minutes.
We head back down the parkway and towards home, stopping at the last gas station to use the bathroom. While Patrick's in le poddy, I'm standing at the drink machine, looking at drinks, and fall asleep standing up.
So we decided it was time for Patrick to drive home...
And at 3:24, we drive on home, ending a fucking wonderful, spontaneous, and well-worth it night.
Passed out on the overpass
Sunday best and broken glass
Broken down from the bikes and bars
Suspended like spirits over speeding cars
You and me were kingsking&queen over the Parkway tonight
And tonight will go on forever while we
walkdrive around this town like we own the streets
and stay awake through summer like we own the heat
Singing "everybody wake up (wake up) it's time to get down"
And when I pass the bottle [of Cheerwine] back to Pete Patrick
on the overpass tonight, I bet we laugh.
I'm gonna stay eighteen nineteen forever (cut me open)
So we can stay like this forever (sun poisoned)
And we'll never miss a party random road trip (this offer...)
cause we keep them going constantly (...stands forever)
And we'll never have to listen (new haircut)
to anyone about anything (new bracelet)
cause it's all been done and it's all been said (eyeliner)
we're the coolest kids and we take what we can get
The hell out of this town
Find some conversation [with SUCKADICK Dobson cops]
The low fuel lights been on for days
It doesn't mean anything.
I've got another 500 100, 'nother 500 100 miles
before we shut this engine down,
we shut it down.
Eighteen nineteen forever (first kisses)
(your stomach's filled up but you're starved for conversation)
So we can stay like this forever (new stitches)
(you're spending all your nights growing old in your bed)
And we'll never miss a party random road trip (collar weekend)
(and you're tearin up your photos cause you wanna forget... it's over)
cause we keep them going constantly (appearance ticket)
(you're just jealous cause we're young and in love single)
And we'll never have to listen (November to...)
(your stomach's filled up but you're starved for conversation)
to anyone about anything cause it's all been done (...remember)
(you're spending all your nights growing old in your bed)
and it's all been said (nightswimmers)
(and your tearin up your photos cause you wanna forget... it's over)
we're the coolest kids and we take what we can get.
