Your best bet for hosting is probably something like Dreamhost.com We use them for notaconmedia.com

For domains, I believe TGE is still an authorized reseller, even though that name has been out of business technically for quite awhile. I'll ask Paul tonight if he remembers.

And I forgot to add, I use a program called WinSCP when I'm working on the notacon page. It looks and feels a lot like wsftp used to, but it uses scp protocol. You can associate your own editor with it such that you open the copy on the server and edit it, or you can copy to your desktop, edit, and copy back.

I got the Creating Websites for Dummies book. I haven't actually used it yet, but I would highly recommend it since it has free software to help out!

tge is still an authorized reseller for friends. as to getting the domain patchworkplayers.org, tod said it's only been expired about a week. usually the name is reserved for around 30 days before it's available on the free market. what you could do is check if the domain is available for purchase each day, and try to snag it that way. however, a lot of domains are snagged by squatters who then want to resell it for exorbitant amounts of money, so you need to grab it before they do.

alternatively, you could go for a different name, like something based off the confused greenies or i verdi confusi.
