50 shades of Grey

I've started reading 50 shades of grey. The first sex scene made me a little sad and also scoff with skepticism. A 22 year old who has never masturbated? Come on. And she's not even from a religious background. On top of that she easily comes from him just playing with her breasts, nothing else. And he easily rams into her and she feels no pain. A friend has been harassing me to read those books and mentioned the whole sex stuff. I had to prevent rolling my eyes since I can already imagine that I've read better. Now I'm even more reluctant to bother reading them. I have a few friends who still find it very uncomfortable and not pleasurable to have sex with their husbands, and then these stories come out with it being absolutely perfect the very first time having sex. Multiple orgasms all around, double on Sundays!! :p It doesn't help that I'm a plot-whore. I'd rather an involved story over a generic sex scene anytime.

There is a plot to it. I just finished reading the first book and am currently on the second. While it does bug me a little with this whole sexual tension and the 'inner goddess' thing that the main character is keen exists in her and easy multiple orgasms, it's so far a good story. I think it would be even better, if not darker, in his point of view. But that would change the whole tone of the book, since a lot of the plot is about the mystery that is Mr. Grey. Thankfully the whole dominant/submissive lifestyle seems to be derailed so far, in part because the main character just does not want to be a submissive. She likes some aspects of it when it comes to the sex, but as a way of life, she doesn't like it. Which I can at least relate to.

Anyway, it's worth checking out if you have the time. It didn't take me that long to read the first novel.

Good to know that the other parts of the book are worthwhile. I'm incredibly cheap, so I'll wait until the ebooks go on sale before I check any of them out. I do enjoy narratives where there is a character shrouded in mystery, so I'll check it out for that reason. I've read too much fanfiction over the years where sex was the whole endgame, which made me a little "blah" about this series when my friend went straight to the sex as a selling point. :p

I'm on the third book now, almost half way. I find it hard to keep reading and not skim. The sex scenes have become redundant and not meaningful in the least to the plot. I hate the characters, and I'm starting to feel like this is just a bad fanfiction or something. I think book one was pretty much the highlight of the series, and it kind of goes downhill from there. Now I feel like I have to read the final book and finally finish the blasted thing just so I know what happens and on the off chance it gets better since apparently there's some twist at the end.

This is why I stopped reading romance books in general. The sex scenes are always very unrealistic and skeeve me out. Plus the dialogue makes me feel awkward and uncomfortable, usually.

I would read anything you wrote about vaginismus because I love learning about different things, and it would be refreshing to read about a female that doesn't orgasm at the drop of a hat. :/

As for my 'first time' when I was 19, there was no pain because my hymen was torn when I was a toddler. I'm kind of glad about it because I don't like pain, but I also felt kind of cheated because I'll never know what it traditionally feels like to lose one's virginity, if that makes sense. I can orgasm from breasts alone, but it's different from below-the-belt manipulation.
