I hope the people who were grumbling about the heat last month are happy with what we've got now. It's more like November than August here, with dark grey skies and a blustery wind threatening rain any moment. Temperatures didn't even reach 60°F today.

This is obviously the time to be heading for warmer parts, and for the past few days I have been ( Read more... )

Traveling to Spain sounds so exotic, and would be a big deal, from this side of the Atlantic. One forgets how relatively close things are in Europe. Have a wonderful trip - but I can't imagine spending time with a confluence of mathematicians.

Did you ever to on that walking tour?

Mathematicians en masse are harmless but unexciting. After 40 years of going to math conferences, I have made lots of friends from all over the world, and I'm hoping to see many of them in Madrid.

Yes, and I wrote about it in this entry.

This is odd. You seem to have missed that entry, and I missed seeing your entry about the New Mexico trip (I just came across it today). LiveJournal must be to blame.

I'm really beginning to wonder what's going on.

Fantastic views and vistas in your photos. One can only wonder what lives were lived out in those rugged places over the centuries. Walking here in the states so often seems to be for the sake of getting some exercise - I don't know of many who would consider a vacation of that sort - stopping along the way to soak up the land, sun & clouds.

Thanks for linking me to this entry. Hope you enjoy Madrid.

Typical knee jerk reaction by the authorities. I can't see how taking on a book would aid in a terrorist plot. I hope your trip isn't too taxing on you and Mary. I guess you will have to spend your flight time in convertsation.

Cold here too at nearly 4 am. 50F/10C. I should build a fire in the fireplace.

They are now saying that although you can't carry books when you go through security, it doesn't matter because you can then buy a book from the bookshops in the departure area. Well now, I wouldn't want to come across as snobby or elitist, but frankly I wouldn't be seen dead carrying the sort of book they sell in airport bookstalls. Maybe this whole thing is just a ploy to increase their sales.
