So, it's all over. After 41 years of employment I am, as from the end of September, officially retired. For the time being, that won't make any noticeable difference to me. Would you and Mary ever think about moving to Spain to be closer to the kids and grandkids?

I was pleased that several of the research students came to the lectures and to the dinner. But the cutest guy there was not a student, but a young Bulgarian who now teaches in a UK university. I first met him ten years ago at a memorable conference on the Aegean island of Samos. He was stunningly attractive then, and he's still quite a looker. Unfortunately the photo with him in it is badly out of focus. In fact it is so blurred that I would have rejected it if it hadn't had him in it.

Mary often thinks about it. I don't think she could persuade me to live there permanently. But we have some ideas which might lead to a compromise move in that direction. If anything comes of it, I'll let you know. ;)
