Mary is very torn about this. She loves cats, and wants to make friends with the new neighbours' cats. But she also loves birds, and hates it when the cats kill them. It will be interesting to see whether the cat scarer works as advertised.

I've never heard of a cat scarer. Interesting.

Take care of yourself and feel better soon. You don't want to catch a bad chill up in the highlands.

I'm feeling a bit better today, and I'm sure I'll be well enough to travel by Saturday. Can't wait to be back in the Highlands again!

We have these neat 'cat-scarers' - called rifles.
(just kidding) :-)
We have a pair of nesting birds across the street from our condo - THEY are 'cat-scarers' too - American Bald Eagles.

That must be quite a sight, to have an eagles' nest across the street. I'm surprised that they would nest in an urban setting.

My cousin (now sadly deceased) in Tillsonburg, Ontario was a great bird fancier. When we visited him in 1979 he proudly showed us round the grounds of his house, which he had made into a huge aviary with many exotic specimens including a pair of bald eagles. He told us that he was the only private individual in Canada licensed to keep them in captivity. Personally, I'd rather see birds in the wild than in cages.

There is an annual 'fireworks competition' in English Bay (our waterfront) scheduled for this week - and bird-fanciers are trying to get it put off until after the nesting period - because of the eagles and their young alongside.
It's quite common to have nesting eagles around Vancouver. We are so close to the wilderness and the sea. Magnificent creatures.
