Hope everyone had a great summer. I certainly did. Didn't go anywhere exotic for vacation, or indeed get vacation time off (that comes in October), but I had fun. :)
because I have a suspicion that something might 'happen' to Nami. (Hey, she's due.)
DUHUUUUHU. Actually, when I saw that Luffy was moaning about Nami's loss in particular and when I had gone past OMGTHEYARESOINLOVEFANGIRLSPAZZ status, I thought it must be a kind of foreshadowing. :x I trust in Oda and his skills. (But yes, I can see Nami being soaped as well.)
LOL YOU CAN NEVER BE TOO SURE. I got that feeling last week, too, but was also weary that the amazing "GIVE ME YOUR HAND" page, might've been done for aesthetic purposes. And cuz that's Oda's ship.
But now that her disappearance and Luffy's feelings on it are emphasized, I'm 99% positive Nami is going on a "very special adventure" unlike the others. The lingering doubt is because Oda has squandered opportunities in the past (crushing my soooouuul.)
:pukes: To you, mushroom Luffy must be a dream come true. :X
From now on, September of 2008 will be known as "The month the Luffy/Nami fandom exploded."
Just...dude, look at the poor boy. I always thought that the way Luffy shared his hat with Nami indicated she was his most 'treasured' nakama (because his hat was his greatest material treasure) and the past couple of chapters confirm it. He may not be aware of his feelings on a conscious level yet, and because he's so slow, it may take a while for him to catch on...
You know what? Oda isn't bothering with subtlety anymore, so neither am I.
I'm sure it's exploded in the past, but damn if this isn't a pivotal moment in the camp. No rly, this is big. How often does Luffy single out a crewmember from the rest without reason, and in such a heart-wrenching manner. WHEN HE'S IN LOVE OF COURSE.
And yes, hat is very important. I hate when people bring up "well other people have held Luffy's hat" to try and debunk that point. Whenever Nami gets Luffy's hat, it is always accompanied by so much emotion and feeling and empowering statements and it is stupid to compare them.
Though I actually agree with you that's he's not 'fully conscious' of it just yet. Nami too actually. But it's so obviously there. Right there, on those pages. And more.
While I did think the sudden forray into an Amazon adventure was a bit awkwardly timed, but this chapter had some goodgood stuff for sure.
Yeah, I did. I thought "Oh hai, this person makes interesting LJ posts. I think I'll net-stalk them lolz."
As for the hat thing, I think it's only in the anime where he shares it with other people willingly, because, you know, the anime gets stuff wrong. But you're right about the deeper emotional meaning behind it nonetheless.
I think it would be plausible for Nami to figure out her feelings first, but Luffy's probably going to need a lot more time to get a clue. Luffy's always honest about his emotions, but I don't think he understands consciously how deep his feelings for Nami have become, which is a compelling scenario. We get to see them fall in love slowly, rather than going all drool monkey at the first instant.
It's things like the spores on Luffy's body (and face) that helps to highlight the interesting turns of One Piece these days...as disturbing as they are. (Spores on face - like in-growing hairs breaking through skin! DDX *blech*)
And I didn't notice the snake when I read the chapter, until you pointed him/her out. Ha ha ha ha ha!
YOU FIND IT GROSS AS HELL TOO? Euuughh I find myself getting itchy just LOOKING at it. And fighting the urge to take a weed-wacker to Luffy's face. :deadeadead: In-grown hairs are nasty, but I can tolerate them rather than freaky, parasitic demon fungus that is turning your body into a planter. At least hairs are normal on your body.
Unless it's in your mouth or EYEBALLS (the only places hair should never be), then yeah because when it comes down to it, all people are hairy mammals. :P (The puss and pain however..)
It seems every new female we come across is being hailed as "POTENTIAL NEW MEMBER" but I'm not really thinking about that. (More concerned with where the story's going.) As for Marguerite, a female fighter would be great but she hasn't been that impressive so far (I like the giant one better lol).
And that LuNa moment was definitely some LUNA. If it wasn't anything to raise an eye about, I don't think he'd have included a flashback of it.
