OK, you and I both said dating a smoker doesn't matter. I'm married to one. It does matter though. The walls get dirty twice as fast or twice as dirty. We spend twice as much. I agree with Jeremy Irons about genetics, and while I'd like my husband to quit smoking, I think it is a bigger health priority for him to give up his 35ish pounds of sugar a month!

I do think it would be hard for a couple to be one smoker and one not. My own goal is not to smoke excessively.

Also, running into/meeting a smoker in public who is also afraid to "come out" is a pleasure - very comforting in this smoker-unfriendly society.

I don't boast about it. Someday I may quit. I totally understand the feeling of coming out, it's like, "OH you two?"

Normally, with things like this, I tend to have an opinion of, "Eh, it's their business." And I do still kind of have that thought....

However, with cigarette smoking, smoke kind of affects everyone around a person who's smoking. I am very highly allergic to cigarette smoke, and it will 9 times out of 10 trigger an asthma attack. Most people who do smoke don't realize how much it affects others, and that people like me don't want to take away their right to smoke; we want to maintain our right to a healthy environment in which to breathe.

IF that's the case, then why do many of these bans include seperately ventilated smoking rooms? Surely non-smokers don't happen to wander into those accidentally.

I don't know anything about anything like that, sorry.

Then you're really not keeping informed about the issues, are you?

Being an occasional pipe smoker, I couldn't answer the last question.

Anti-choice laws do piss me off though.

I am a paradox because I picked "I find it attractive" to the question "what do you think of people who smoke" but I picked "no way" to "would you date a smoker ( ... )

As long as people smoke outside and not in my house, I don't care what they do. There are worse things to indulge in.
