This will likely be uninteresting to anyone but me. I decided to compile a book list so that I can keep track of the reading I have done during my "year off." So far I am pretty happy with the variety of reading material.
The Poisonwood Bible - Barbara Kingsolver (I should have read this years ago. Beautiful.)
The Weight of Water - Anita Shreve
The Parable of the Sower - Octavia Butler (again - read aloud to Dad)
Prozac Highw@y - Persimmon Blackbridge (possible thesis text?)
Madness and Civilization - Michel Foucault (again)
Girl, Interrupted - Susanna Kaysen (probable thesis text.)
Fighting Angel - Pearl Buck
American Appetites - Joyce Carol Oates
Vice Verasa: Bisexuality and the Eroticism of Everyday Life - Marjorie Garber (so long, so worth it)
Frankenstein - Mary Shelley (finally)
Wormword, Gentleman Corpse - Ben Templesmith (graphic novel)
Madness: A Brief History - Roy Porter (very readable; great starting point for background thesis research)
Teaching to Transgress: Education as the Practice of Freedom - bell hooks
The High Cost of Living - Marge Piercy
The Virgin Suicides - Jeffry Eugenides (didn't like it as well as Middlesex, but still good)
Larry's Party - Carol Shields (why hadn't I read Carol Shields before this? She's like a combination of Margaret Atwood and Joyce Carol Oates. Lovely.)
