What an amazing post! I always thought the Dursleys were some of the most interesting characters in HP, and wish more fans would give them serious consideration as characters (as opposed to, "Eyew, they were mean to Harrrrryyyyyy!"). I've always seen Dudley having it as bad as Harry, if only in a more insidious, psychologically-skewed way. Petunia and Vernon living vicariously through their son, training him in a way that psychologically devastates any chance he has of getting through life easily (life must be a bitch for Duds in the real world).
Yeah, I'd like to know what the Dementors wanted from Dudley, the kid who on the surface has no troubles or sorrows at all. I hope (albeit fleetingly and without much expectation of fulfillment) that JKR addresses this in the next two books. If not, we will have to depend on fanfic to give us more of Dudley.
