[This is Alistair nursing a mug of beer at a bar.]

So what did you say your profession was exactly?

[A mug? Please. The best way to drink this stuff is straight outta the bottle, as Flynn is doing now.

There is a pause in which he raises an eyebrow:] I didn't. Why do you ask?

Oh, nothing. Just making conversation.

If you ask me though, I'd say you look a lot like a traveling merchant.

[Flynn considers this] ...a ruggedly handsome traveling merchant?

[Uh, what. What.]

Are you actually asking me for my opinion about your looks?

Maybe. Or maybe I was just making conversation, too.

[he grins and tips the bottle in his hand towards you in a salute]

The name's Flynn.

Right.

[Alistair raises his mug as well in a similar gesture.]

Alistair. It's a pleasure to meet you, Flynn. [And a sip.] You never really answered my first question, did you?

I didn't. Then again you've answered mine so far. Guess I owe you, huh?

[he also taking a sip. He might be matching you on purpose, though why he would do such an inane thing...]

Let's just say that I move things.

Well, that's still pretty vague, don't you think? I can't imagine much coin could be had from that either.

[An amused laugh.] Not that being a Grey Warden is all that glamorous of a profession either.

It pays the bills. Some of the stuff I handle can be pretty pricey.

[his smile is a hide-all-your-valuables kinda smile

which evolves into one of curiousity] Grey Warden? Is that some sort of title in the military? [guessing based on the armor here]

Pricey enough to have others deal with it?

We're not exactly part of the military, but we do help whenever necessary. [A sigh escapes him as he hunches over the bar, lost in his own thoughts.] Or at least did.

Something like that. Some people are lazy, you know?

[eyebrow raise. You have his full interest now] "Did"?

Oh, nothing you should concern yourself with. [He's able to plaster on a small, forced smile on his face.] I'm sure the backstory of a complete stranger must seem quite meaningless to someone such as yourself.

Meaningless? Of course not! [chin in hand, bright smile on face. Flynn is totally interested, Alistair. Hope it doesn't creep you out.] That's what bars are for, right? Gut-busting drinks and mundane stories from people you are likely to never cross paths with again? It's a golden opportunity to spill your guts out without any consequences to face in the morning. I say take it with both hands and don't let go. Am I right or am I right?

[he raises his bottle to you as part of the question]

[Alistair smiles a little, raising his own mug before taking a swig.]

Well said. Sounds like you frequent taverns quite often. I myself haven't exactly had the pleasure of visiting one until recently. Or just having a drink for that matter.

Are you kidding me? You're looking at an all-star bar connoisseur, my friend!

You learn to make time for these things so that means you either love your job or are a slave to it. So which will it be, Mister Grey Warden...?

No, no, no. That's not what I meant. I love being a Grey Warden. It's just that there isn't much of a chance to stop by taverns very often.
