I fail to understand why one would make a fool out of a kid who has no idea him/herself that that's happening to him/her. People might look shocked, indeed freaked out when they see it and what impression would that make on the kid who's the object of their reactions? Ah well, perhaps I take things a bit too seriously at times. I never liked those video clip TV shows either in which those little accidents with kids are shown and people laughing their heads off. Sometimes I positively got the feeling that parents caused those little incidents on purpose, just to be able to create a funny clip.
Everyone's sense of what makes a fool out of a child and what doesn't is different. For example, if I had something like this, I would suspect I'd only use it with people I knew... I'd like to think my child (in years to come) would find it funny, since by the age of two, my little guy wants to make funny faces and wear funny costumes to make people laugh.
What really gets me going is those stupid looking lace bands people put around the heads of baby girls with no hair to make sure everyone knows it's a girl. I find them much cruel and embarrassing, but some people must find them cute.
I'm sure you'right, Tracey, but I can imagine mothers giving this to their baby while making a stroll in the park and see the shocked faces or startled reactions of passersby;what would it do to the baby? I wonder. I never dolled my girl up. She wouldn't let me, even if I wanted to. Disliked anything on her head, caps, pins, whatever... :))) Acted more like a boy than a girl later on.
