It was odd: before now, the complexities of political life and the simplicities of home had been largely kept apart, even in the time Peter had spent in Haiti. Natalie had seen the insanity of it all pretty much every time she'd had a second to think about it for a while now. So, she preferred not to think about it.

It still felt like a time to check on Peter in more of a non-assistant capacity. She knocked on his door.

Peter had been staring out the window for about a minute now; the knock jerked him out of his reverie. He sighed, momentarily considered not answering the door, then gave in.

"Mom--" he started as he pulled open the door. "--ah, Nat."

"Just in case, warn me if you ever get the inclination to clean something or moon over my siblings," Peter said, stepping out of the way. "I'll know it's time to retire you."
