CHARACTER NAME: Rolo Lamperouge
FANDOM: Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2
CANON: Post Turn 19.02 (this picture drama)
WHAT THEY LOST:
His impulse to kill. As an orphan, Rolo was raised within the Geass Directorate where he was trained from a very young age to kill. His first assassination missions began when he was as young as six years old. As a result, killing becomes the only thing he knows, so much that it often becomes the answer to his problems. In his mind, it is often the "best and most efficient method" to deal with these problems. Problems that can be anything from someone walking in on a classified conversation or even touching the locket he holds so dear. Yes, he actually kills a man for touching his locket.

Taking this away from Rolo would force him to develop beyond the killing impulse, hopefully in such a way that he would eventually learn how to deal with problems in normal ways. And not by using violence.

If Rolo were to ever attempt attacking someone with the motive to kill, he would immediately lose consciousness.

ABOUT THE CHARACTER:
For the most part, Rolo seems like a shy, reserved young man who has difficulties making friends. He tends to have a blunt and brief manner of speaking, sometimes only responding in short sentences. When he is uncomfortable, he becomes easily flustered and reacts without thinking. But this personality is created by and also used to cover up for what he truly is. As a child brought up in the Geass Directorate (a secret society that both researched Geass and experimented on orphans in order to give them Geasses of their own), Rolo has been brought up to be nothing more than a killing machine. An assassin, with nothing to look forward to but completing his missions. This way of life has made Rolo apathetic, cold, and disinterested in anything save his missions. In his mind, what is most important is completing said missions and is ruthless in doing so, relying on any methods he feels are "most efficient". He even goes so far as to kill his fellow teammates when he feels they've become an obstacle to the mission's completion or because they've learned classified information that they should not know. In essence, Rolo's entire existence is to be a tool for those that raised him and Rolo gives no thought to whether this is right or wrong until he meets one special person.

After the failed Black Rebellion and the capture of the terrorist code named "Zero", Rolo is given what becomes a life changing mission. Zero, it turns out, is none other than the disgraced Seventeenth Prince Lelouch vi Britannia. Lelouch is stripped of his Geass (the unique ability that allows him to issue commands that are impossible to disobey) and his memories. He is sent back to Japan to live as a normal high school student under the name "Lelouch Lamperouge". But someone is needed to keep an eye on Lelouch, to ensure that he never regains his power or his memories. This job is given to Rolo, who takes up the position of Lelouch's "little brother". And for the first time in Rolo's life, he discovers what it's like to have a family.

For a full year, they live together, with Lelouch believing they're siblings. He dotes on Rolo, showering him in affection and unconditional love. This has a huge impact on Rolo, who comes to care for Lelouch in return. The time that Rolo spends with Lelouch allows Rolo a time of normalcy and happiness that he had never before known. Soon enough, Rolo begins to show a softer, more gentle side. But only around Lelouch. And Lelouch's affection becomes something Rolo craves, having been devoid of such attention his entire life. This is only accentuated when Lelouch celebrates Rolo's "birthday", the first birthday Rolo had ever experienced, where he receives a heart-shaped locket from his brother. The locket becomes a symbol of his devotion and obsession with Lelouch so much that Rolo even kills a fellow member of very team he was supposed to be working with to spy on Lelouch. Just for touching it.

Because of his strong devotion and love for Lelouch, when Lelouch eventually regains his memories, it becomes easy for him to manipulate Rolo into believing their relationship is true. With Rolo manipulated so easily, he abandons his Secret Intelligence officers and joins Lelouch's side. With Rolo under Lelouch's wing, Rolo does anything and everything to protect Lelouch, their relationship, and their secrets. He follows almost every order Lelouch gives him. In fact, this drive becomes an obsession for Rolo and it shows when he kills one of Lelouch's classmates in an attempt to silence her when she reveals her once sealed memories had been restored and then mentions wanting to reunite Lelouch with his real sibling, Nunnally. And so driven is Rolo to be Lelouch's only real family, he even sets out to kill Nunnally, though he fails when she is seemingly killed by the Knight of Seven's use of FLEIJA (a nuclear weapon) on the city of Tokyo.

Eventually, Rolo comes to understand that Lelouch is using him, but regardless of Lelouch's motivations and true feelings for Rolo, the young assassin continues to work for his brother, doing anything he can to support him. He makes it his duty to protect Lelouch, even after Lelouch reveals his true feelings: That he had hated Rolo all along and had tried to kill him. This shows the most when at a moment when things seem dire and Lelouch has lost all other allies, only hours after Lelouch had confessed to hating Rolo, Rolo steps in to protect Lelouch. But doing so comes at a price. Using his Geass, the "Seal of Absolute Suspension" that allows him to halt people's perception of time, Rolo fights off any and all opponents as they try to kill Lelouch. But with each use of his Geass, Rolo strains his heart. For, despite everything he's done and been through, Rolo has always been considered a failed experiment by the Geass Directorate. A failure with a faulty Geass that stops his heart every time he uses it. But even with knowing this, Rolo still continues to push himself and the limits of his heart to get Lelouch to safety, despite Lelouch's protests against it. He does this, claiming it to be his own choice, something that he had never been able to make when he was a tool for the Directorate, for the world, and even for Lelouch.

Rolo does manage to get Lelouch to safety, but only as his heart gives out. And as he lays dying inside the knightmare frame with Lelouch sitting nearby, Rolo reveals a side to himself that he'd never before shown. It's the side that demonstrates how much he understood "his brother". Far more, perhaps, than many other characters that knew Lelouch. He asks Lelouch if what he'd said about hating Rolo was a lie. He recalls the time they shared together, when Lelouch's true smile had been something only Rolo got to see, and how it had be real to him. This surprises Lelouch, and he acknowledges the truth in Rolo's words, saying that Rolo saw right through him. Something he'd expect of someone who was truly his little brother. And with Rolo's last breaths, he replies with "That's... right. Because I... know everything... about Brother." Which Lelouch admits as true, even after Rolo's already passed.

It should also be noted that though Rolo is highly skilled in the area of assassinations, Rolo doesn't tell anyone this (save, maybe, Lelouch). He pretends to be a normal young man, and his apathetic inner personality comes through as someone who is just shy and quiet. Rolo also knows this and sometimes takes advantage of it. But generally speaking, his quiet nature keeps others from suspecting his true motives or nature. The only indication that something about him might be off is that he seems to know more than he lets on.

THIRD-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE:
Was this hell? At first, Rolo was inclined to believe so, even if he didn’t believe in the existence of God. Despite feeling air in his lungs and his heart beat once again, Rolo knew he was no longer living (a trick of hell, maybe? he wasn’t sure). His hands were far too blood stained for him to go to heaven, that much he knew. Murderers and liars didn’t ascend and he had been doomed since he was a child.

If this was hell, Rolo felt it was rather benevolent. He had expected something more torturous, more dark, more frightening. The scenery didn’t reflect hell at all. It reminded him of some of the older areas in the EU (mission numbers thirty-two, ninety-seven, two hundred and eleven, three hundred and sixty-four). It seemed like it was a fully functioning city of its own.

Maybe he wasn’t in hell after all. There was no way it could be heaven, so was he… was he in limbo? The beating of his heart made him wonder. Beats regular as the ticking time of a clock.

Time. Time. Time. He had had so little and yet so much of it. Would it be in his hands here, like it had while he was alive? Would he be able to bend it to his will again?

Crimson flashed in his right eye, and the world stopped. Everyone around him froze, and in his head, he counted down the time until his heart needed to pump again. Five, four, three, two, one. Then the world moved again.

How strange that even in death, the binding contract of his Geass was still in affect. How strange that his heart still beat, even after it had stopped. Had he even really died at all? Was he dreaming?

...Or was it all fake? Fake fake fake. Fake like him, his name, his purpose? Fake like Lelouch, his “truths,” his love? Fake like the time they had spent together? But it hadn’t been fake, he told himself. Not to him. It had been real, everlasting, and eternal. A priceless period of time. So what kind of time did he have now?

He slipped a hand into a pocket, fingers gripping the long, slim handle of a cold, steel knife. It was real enough, sitting in his hand. As real as the beating of his (previously stopped) heart.

That meant this place was real too. It wasn't a dream. It wasn't fake. Like his memories and his feelings and his heart. But this wasn't where he belonged. If he was alive, there was someone he needed to get back to. Which meant that the only thing that remained was discovering how to get back to his brother.

FIRST-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE:
[ For a few seconds there's nothing on the page save for a few scribbles. A few dots of ink as if he'd been tapping his pent against the page. A few nonsensical marks that all but one person would think to be random doodles. However, for that one person who would know, it's a code, translating to something like "Brother, are you here?" And then for several minutes, there's nothing until the journal begins to transcribe the quiet mumbles he makes to himself. ]

This has to be a dream. But still-

[ Another few moments of silence go by as he flips through the pages of the journal, trying to find as much information as possible. Securing only a little, but noticing the writing strangly appearing on its own, he picks up his pen and begins to write in an incredibly girly handwriting ]

The details I was supplied with upon arrival are lacking. For those that can read this, I am requesting additional information.

And if you come into contact with someone- last name Lamperouge, contact me immediately.

INTENT:
I like the duality about Rolo. On one hand, he's a remorseless killer. On the other, he's kind, caring and a devote younger brother. His obsession makes him interesting, but I want to play him in a setting where he is cut off from the only person he cares about.
