I bought a cheap guitar. Campfire singalongs, here I come. (in the 20 years or so it takes me to learn to play the thing. come for the reunion tour.)
I may also be confirmed for officially teaching graduate neuroanatomy next year. Woo!
Leave a comment and I'll give you a letter; then you have to list 10 things you like starting with that letter. Post them in your journal and give out new letters to your commenters in turn. Borrowed from
quietmadman, who also lent me a couple xes. Let's see if I can come up with something other than strange(xeno) yellow(xantho) woody(xylo) objects.
I. X - the roman numeral for the number 10. I'm quite a fan of the decimal system - even though it doesn't have the niche appeal, it does go quite well with my hands. The metric system is dependent on the number 10, and where would we be without that? I'm also supposed to list ten of these things. Hmmm.
II. Xanthan gum. Where would we be without this mysterious ingredient on our food packages? Apparently our salad dressings would separate. (Thanks,
Wikipedia.)
III. x - the symbol. I often use it in checkboxes to avoid the dilemma of how to present myself to the world. Do I go for somewhat silly-looking left-handed checks? Or do I betray my nature for conformity and make right-handed checks, a maneuver that sends the pen flying like a sword toward my delicate underbelly? Now I don't have to decide. Thanks, x!
IV. X Chromosomes. We all have them. Some of us more than others.
V. Xenophilia - I like people from foreign places. I even like liking those people.
VI. Xerophytes - Cactuses and other succulents. It's especially fun to touch the sharp ones.
VII. Xiphoid process. It's the pointy bit of cartilage sticking off your sternum, it's one of the first things I learned in medical school and it has an awesome name
VIII. Xray crystallography. I heart Rosalind Franklin.
IX: Xylem is one of the more memorable elements of the botany section of AP Bio. Water transport in plants is pretty awesome.
X. Xylophone - OK, I was going to avoid this one but I couldn't justify something else instead because xylophones are awesome. Marimbas are better, though. :)
I learned a couple of things along the way: dry(xero) and sword-shaped (xiphi). And yes, by "along the way" I mean "in the dictionary."
