Yoga!

First post here *waves*

I came across this rather random but very sweet little article and wanted to share it with you. It's an interview with the mannschaft's yoga coach talking about a room full of sleeping mannschafters. Sadly no pics..

from Süddeutsche Zeitung:

Like little Bengal tigers

He's the German national team's yoga coach: Patrick Broome about Bengal tigers, defender lines and which type of player really likes yoga.

SZ: Mr. Broome, you're the author of the book "Yoga for men". It says: Learn to enjoy what you have, instead of desiring what you are missing. Did you have to apply this principle in the yoga lesson after the match against Spain?

Patrick Broome: I didn't mention it, but the phrase fits very well. In that lesson, the players were really down, but they managed to deal with it quite quickly.

SZ: Do the players like to do yoga with you?

Broome: The boys are up to everything here, as long as they get a nice neck massage after the yoga lesson. It helps them to get away from it all. That's the reason why Jogi Löw works with me. He wants the players to be able to regenerate quicker after a game. That's why I practice a gentle kind of yoga with them - not meant to activate, but to reduce adrenalin. In the yoga lesson after the match against Spain, almost everyone fell asleep. And they were lying there like little bengal tigers.

SZ: A slumbering Podolski. A side of the players that the usual TV-watcher wouldn't get to see.

Broome: Pretty much. The players are disarmed. That's nice to see. The young man, lying there, and not the athlete who is constantly standing in the limelight. A very honest moment.

SZ: For which type of player is this especially interesting?

Broome: The goalkeepers and defenders especially like doing yoga. Goalkeepers are used to working on their flexibility and their stability. I really don't know why the defenders love yoga though.

SZ: The defense seems very, well, resting in itself during the world cup.

Broome: That's true. The defenders really love to come to the yoga lessons. But I can't give you any names.

SZ: In a previous interview you mentioned, that Mario Gomez and Lukas Podolski like yoga.

Broome: I have learned since then(laughs). During previous tournaments, some players to the press "I do yoga". Then their consultants came to them and told them: "That yoga thing, you shouldn't say that. It might ruin your reputation." Sometimes yoga has a really strange reputation.

sorry, lj won't load the tags....
