"Window Pane"
V-
Saw you today,
though I don't think you knew it,
through the glass
of that dark window pane
at that new place where you work.
Looked for you all summer,
And today, the last day I'm here,
Today is the day I finally see your face.
You haven't changed a whole lot;
The same little smirk on your bad girl lips,
Lit up by a stark orange beam of the streetlights.
I waited at that intersection for fifteen seconds as you guided
The customers inside and led them to a table, where they will sit
and order their food and drink their beer and never, ever know who you are.
You're just a waitress to them.
Just a memory to me.
I still miss you.
