Theory

I don't know why I'm on such a big songwriting kick lately. I've actually been feeling rather reenergized recently, as regards to writing- I sort of stepped back and had a long break after I got through with editing "Raining in January." (I submitted it, also, so there's my New Year's Resolution kept. *L*) I have a new story coming up, which is perhaps a bit less... Significant? than "Raining" was, but I like it. It's a story about monster hunters, in which, if all goes right, there probably won't be any monster fighting. It'll be fun. Trust me.

As the subject line says, this song is about literary theory, which has been occupying various strange crevices of my brain today. Deconstructionism is a mind twist to a writer, let me tell you. I mean, when one of the tenants of the theory is that "there is no author..." Yikes. How can you not feel a bit extreme about that?

Anyhow, here's the song.

"Theory"

I'm deconstructing my life again
I can see the signs everywhere
Makes sense if I don't pay attention
But just a tug and it unravels

I'm analyzing my life's work again
Metaphors that weren't meant to be
Pictures falling off of walls mean
More than they were supposed to

I've got a theory-
I've got a theory
That I make sense
That I'm nonsense
A structure
A psychosis
A singular identity
A multiple personality
I've got a theory-
I've got a theory about this

I think I'm just another structure
In the puzzle of the race
I think I'm a repression
Of depraved sexual fantasies

I've got a theory-
I've got a theory
That life makes sense
That it's nonsense
It's a structure
A psychosis
Of singular identities
And multiple personalities
I've got a theory-
But I don't know what it is.
