Harry Potter and the . . .

Jul 15, 2009 04:32

How has no one but lesstraveled posted a movie review yet? Oh, is it because you all went to bed after seeing it, like sane people? Well, it's 4:30 AM, fuck yeah, and I'm going to talk about Harry Potter. Can you believe I'm only ever going to make two more of these posts? It saddens me but makes me grateful for two movies left, not just one. I will lap up ( Read more... )

harry potter is my personal canon

i was all teary with love for hp until i got to this

ALSO. I AM JUST SAYING THIS UP FRONT, DON'T JUDGE ME, BUT THIS MOVIE MADE ME WANT HARRY/SLUGHORN SOOOOO BAD.

and then i just started laughing hysterically. ah hp. GOD I MISS HP WORDS CANNOT EVEN EXPRESS.

draco made me so emo. and that bit where dumbledore and harry were all off on their horcrux adventure and harry leaned over the water I SCREAMED SO LOUDLY AND JUMPED SO HIGH. IT WAS SO EMBARRASSING.

DRACO :(( AND YES. I KNEW THE INFERI WERE COMING AND I STILL SHRIEKED A LITTLE AND JUMPED IN MY SEAT. THAT WAS PRETTY AMAZING AND ALSO TERRIFYING. I did like those scenes where Harry was making Dumbledore drink, I was impressed by that.

And I just realized I did not really mention Dumbledore once in this whole entire post, hahahaha. Oh well, I'll edit it later. I have to finish reading this Adam/Anoop fic first :">

"Drinking scene," I just thought. "You mean the one where they're all drinking butterbeer and Slughorn slops it all over Hermione and shouts, 'All hands on deck, Granger'?"

OH RIGHT. THE IMPORTANT DRINKING SCENE.

And how distressed he looked as they strode through the Great Hall while Bellatrix was smashing plates. DRACO.

I was expecting to see movie reactions all over my flist but it was strangely quiet. WTF FLIST. Thank you for stepping up and filling the void.

ALSO. I am amused that you did not mention Dumbledore. BUT THAT'S OKAY.

I got through my whole rambling list and then I realized I had barely mentioned him! I guess that shows he did not make a stunning impression. I was not exactly disappointed, which I was worried I would be, but it certainly wasn't the emotional bond that (I think) they did so well between Harry and Sirius in OotP. Without "I'm Dumbledore's man" or their chats or "Nice suit, Professor" or "I am not worried, I am with you" (seriously did I miss this or was it not there? how could it not have been there!), I just did not get the magnitude of Harry's loss, it felt more like, oh, I should have done something, it was partially my fault that he died, and he's my headmaster and the leader of the fight against Voldemort! Not something personal, too.

And now you just got my Dumbledore rant, ahaha sorry. Also, hello friend of derryere's! I am the person in orange type (lol so mysterious), by the way.

OH HELLO MYSTERIOUS ORANGE TEXT PERSON. I am the one in red blathering all over the place. You know, I feel as though we have a strange sort of bond already. One forged in missing commas and appreciation for lots and lots of porn, but a bond nonetheless.

OH HI ADAM LAMBERT ICON ♥ ♥ ♥ I APPROVE OF YOUR FANDOMS, YES I DO. HP + MERLIN + ADAM LAMBERT = ALL THINGS THAT BRING ME RIDICULOUS JOY.

Ah ha, I guessed you were the red text! I feel particularly connected, too. The appreciation for lots and lots of porn is key!

Man, I wrote a Slughorn/Harry drabble for some prompt meme once. feels unclean. YOU GOT SLOSHED! I HOPE YOUR BLADDER FELT APPROPRIATELY UNCOMFORTABLE ONCE THE OCEAN STARTED GOING WOOOOOOSH

OMG THE FELIX SCENE AND "THE PINCERS. *MAKES CLICKING NOISES*". The audience was howling during that part, and so was I.

I also didn't like the part where they changed it from Draco's mission being because he wanted to save his family instead of HIMSELF, like it made him more selfish? Less Slytherin, even. But. HE WAS CRYING AND I FORGAVE HIM EVERYTHING.

oh shit I was also torn between laughing and crying when Dumbledore died and everyone's just gathered around... staring at the body.......... and then McG does that raising-a-cigarette-lighter-at-a-rock-concert tribute and the power of HOPE/LUMOS WASHES THE DARK MARK AWAYYYYYYYYYY ... I mean, I did get a little tear in my beady eye but it was a close thing

Actually, we started drinking around 9:30, so I had successfully visited the bathroom four times before the film started and it turned out to be okay. I was seriously impressed with Dumbledore's ring of fire and the ~parting of the sea~ though, let me tell you. His beard ponytail blowing in the wind.

I WANT A GIF OF THE HARRY PINCERS SCENE RIGHT NOW.

GOD EVERY TOM FELTON CRYING SCENE I PRETTY MUCH CURLED UP INTO A BALL IN MY SEAT GOING :(((((( BUT SIMULTANEOUSLY WANTING TO PUMP MY FIST AND SHOUT, YESSSSS, DRACO! Um. Yeah.

I was also torn between laughing and crying! I was glad that at least there was a purpose to the light, dismantling the Dark Mark, because otherwise I was like, are they all going to start singing the Hogwarts song now? Swaying? I thought of cigarette lighters/cell phones too. But I was also :(( through it all. It helped my laughter that there was this girl probably five people down from me, sobbing really loudly from the AK moment until the credits. I just. What? It was sad, and I cried at the books, but was it ( ... )

THE ENTIRE ZOMBIE WATER SCENE, HOLY SHIT! I was so bored in the book but it was kind of EPIC. Although me being me, I also sat there and went "that is so unhygenic." But I guess e. coli would SHORTLY BECOME THE LEAST OF DUMBLEDORE'S PROBLEMS. The part where he went all Heston and Moses with the firey parting of the sea was badass.

Hahahaha speaking of audience reactions, there was this row of people above me who kept laughing UPROARIOUSLY at... everything, about fifteen seconds after it stopped being funny? IDEK. But I couldn't even be annoyed because that is what midnight showings are all about! MY FELLOW LOSERS BEING OVERLY ENTHUSIASTIC. ♥

That is why I love midnight showings. Everyone cheers and awws and laughs and it's amazing. Some girl actually screamed when Harry touched the ring and all the memories flashed (OMG BTW, WHEN HARRY DID THE LITTLE NECK CRACK AFTER THAT, A LA POSSESSED HARRY IN OotP, MY HEART STARTED FLUTTERING WITH JOY, YESSSSSSS FORESHADOWING). I love midnight showings with big crowds, all of whom are kind of feeling the love and interacting with each other and grinning at the people in hats and scarves.

LOL HOW ABOUT NOW, IS THAT GOOD? I THOUGHT WE COULD JUST TAG-TEAM THIS, YOU KNOW.

LDKFJSLDKFJSD THAT CANE PART :((((( I LEGIT SHOULD INCLUDE THAT, IT WAS :((((( AND OF COURSE LUNA WAS THE ONE THERE TO SEE IT WITH HARRY. Also I love how maybe they didn't make it explicit but Draco was seriously lurking in almost every scene, even the beginning when his face was on the newspaper and the camera kept subtly panning by it. I'm also pretty sure that, with all the Draco and Slughorn focus, they should have just named this Harry Potter and the Heart of Slytherin . . . . what?

I DON'T THINK THEY EVER MADE IT EXPLICIT THAT SLUGHORN WAS SLYTHERIN >:(, 800 POINTS FROM GRYFFINDOR

OK, true, but they did show him with Regulus (NICE LITTLE HINT FOR NON-BOOK READERS, MOVIE) and the other Quidditch players, and Tom and his gang . . . ? I guess if I hadn't read the books I wouldn't have gotten it. Sad. But also, why are you going to these movies if you haven't read the books? I will never understand.
