Correcting your Face

I just got a bit of spam mail hawking fillers to "correct your features that time (blah blah aging stuff blah blah)". I thought about that word. We're often told that we need things to "correct" stuff on our faces. And then I thought, what do you correct? You correct a mistake ( Read more... )

Once, after I'd had a bit to drink, a commercial came on for Oil of Olay age-defying something or other. It made me mad, so I called my mom and told her she's pretty, and I love her wrinkles, and I'm glad she's never bought into all that crap.

I agree.I think part of the problem is fashion magazines photoshop women's faces so they have the texture of a Barbie.

Ahh, but beauty is supposedely this absolute mold that we must all fit. Never mind that the human species in general is way too diverse for more than a handful to fit a general idea of this mold, or that beauty standards in general are more flexible in culture than industry. Actually, forget that. Industrial standards on inanimate products are more flexible than the industrial standards of beauty!!
