So, thoughts on TVD 3x21 this way. Spoilers for the episode (and a minor spoiler from next week's American promo).
So, I have a lot of feelings about this episode. I’m not quite sure what to think of it or where this season is going.
- Ok first off, it was certainly an exciting episode. Things were constantly moving and I was definitely never bored. I liked that the “bad guy” kept switching up, with the Salvatores first teaming up with Klaus against Alaric, and later dropping the Alaric problem to defeat Klaus/rescue Elena. I’m glad Klaus is defeated and all, but it seemed like SUCH a waste to use Bonnie’s spell on Klaus when they now have absolutely NO way to kill Alaric without killing Elena. Idk…it would’ve at least been nice if somebody had acknowledged that giant problem.
- Regarding the Original Family: I really didn’t like Rebekah before, but she’s certainly grown on me. Her showdown with Klaus was perfect; he was acting like a total child and she called him on it. His precious little hybrid army…get over it dude. I’m not a huge Klaroline shipper, but that moment when he “saved” her at the school really illustrated his feelings for Caroline. However, her non-reaction to his death (well, actually celebrating his death…so positive reaction would be a better description) after she witnessed his earlier feelings seems to reinforce how much she did not feel anything for him. Tyler was also pretty likeable in this episode: not much Tyler/Caroline action, but just his character in general redeemed himself.
- It really does seem like they’re gearing up to have Elena choose between Salvatores (or neither of them) in the next episode. I gotta say, it’s making me a nervous wreck. The way it was played it this episode makes it seem like they both have 100% equal chance to be chosen by Elena. It seems like total misery is ahead for at least one character (and really, would Elena ever be happy knowing the other is miserable?). I personally think that she’s grown apart from Stefan and has grown closer to Damon, so she should move on from Stefan. I mean, she’ll always love Stefan, but that doesn’t mean she can’t pursue her feelings for Damon. Many people will always love an earlier boyfriend/husband, but they move on and find happiness with someone else. On the plus side, Elena’s speech at the end of the episode confirms without a doubt that she has feelings for Damon. Grr, I can’t really articulate my feelings on this very well. I really hate love triangles like this; they seem so hopeless, painful, and confusing for the person deciding. Honestly, I’m finding that aspect of these episodes hard to take. It also seems like the Elena/Stefan resurgence came out of nowhere to make for an exciting!finale decision. (BTW, I’m super irritated at Stefan for talking Damon into leaving town if she chooses Stefan. You want to do that if she chooses Damon, fine, but don’t force your decision on someone else).
- People (especially Damon & Stefan!) are STUPID for leaving Elena alone after the Klaus encounter. She’s lost a MASSIVE amount of blood, and hit her head extremely hard….but hey, she probably won’t have a concussion or other repercussion….oh wait.
- Alaric revealing the vampire secret to the council can only result in disaster. My only thought was “oh crap!”
- I still wonder how this will all turn out. I doubt this would happen, as idk if they’d make Elena turn yet (although the promo for next week seems to indicate her life is in danger…again) but I could see them throwing in a twist ending. For example, Elena has made a decision regarding Damon vs. Stefan, she’s rushing over to tell the lucky guy, and BAM gets in to a car wreck and dies. In the ensuing angst over becoming a vampire, the relationship drama would be put aside. I don’t know…it seems plausible.
EDIT: I forgot about Damon's 60 years comment. I don't remember it exactly, but something something implying that inh 60 years they could go back to being brothers because the whole Elena thing would be done with. Though that was obviously just a comment to smooth things over, it does make me wonder if they're going to turn ELena...how would Stefan or Damon deal with the prospect of Elena living forever? (and having to deal with the fact that one of them lost her forever)
Also, Elena dying would solve the evil!Ric problem, would it not? I still don't think it's likely to happen, but it does seem like a possibility given recent events (though I suppose the same could be said about last season's finale too, well episode before the finale, and see how that turned out)
- So…just the finale left. The love triangle thing is pathetically stressing me out. Lol, I’m even finding it hard to read VD fanfic right now. I really don’t think I’ll like how the leave it. Maybe I’ll be happily surprised…I hope so.
