Sandi Thom would appear to me to be from a long line of one-hit novelty items I've been hearing most of my life. We've had them for years in England. Joe Dolce's completely awful Shaddup Your Face kept Ultravox's Vienna off number one. Then there's the children's choir that sang There's No One Quite Like Grandma. There's loads more but I can't think of them right now. I try to block them all out obviously. But it is part of the heritage, is shit, godawful pap. Study back if you can. They're all over the place. No point getting all up in arms. She's another one of those. Piss in the wind. Chip wrappers on Sunday morning pavements. She'll soon be gone. It'll be all over before you can say Crazy Frog. Hopefully right?
The problem is that she's not really a novelty act. She's just another in a long line of blandness, including people like KT Tunstall, and she'll probably continue on for a bit. I think her album's gone to number one as well. James Blunt still hasn't left us. Its a bit more dire than that. Either way, I'm not really up in arms, I just think Charlie Brooker's article was pretty funny.
