World Cup - Day 8 - Maybe they don't need Montenegro after all
Money being as it is, I really can't afford to leave the flat for the moment. Maybe on Monday, but certainly not at the moment. In any case, this was the best football I've seen so far.
Argentina v Serbia & Montenegro
Holy hell. Serbia & Montenegro were widely tipped to be surprise performers in the tournament. Perhaps not better than Argentina, but certainly enough to beat a lackluster Dutch side. Boy, were they wrong. There really is nothing to say about this game, other than it was a complete massacre. I highly recommend everyone download the match or at least Youtube the goals. This was the best display of gorgeous football all tournament, and it includes what is probably the best goal so far. One goal had a lead up of a string of 24 passes. A beautiful touch to Crespo, a clever and immediate backheel and a brilliant strike made Argentina my favourites to win. I don't want them to, but I think they've got a great chance to take the whole tournament. I feel sorry for whoever has to face them in the next round. For now, goodbye Serbia & Montenegro. It was your first and only appearance in the World Cup Finals, and you really made a mess of it.

Netherlands v Cote D'Ivoire
The best African side of the tournament by miles has been the Ivory Coast. Others have shown a strong showing, but none were nearly as threatening as the Ivory Coast. It is truly unfortunate they were placed in the so called Group of Death. They've had to face two of the best teams in the world, and now they're essentially out of it. Again, not much to say at the moment about this match. It was intensely fought. Holland went up, then Ivory Coast equalized, then Holland sealed their fate. Both Van Nistlerooy and Van Persie shined as well as Robben. The plays were controlled and well executed on both side. It was really a toss-up as to who would win. I can't quite explain why Ivory Coast took all those corners in the last minutes short, and I hope they learned their lesson. Still, a fantastic showing. I wish an African side would make it to the final 16. The next World Cup is going to be held in South Africa, and this tournament is determining whether they will have 5 teams plus South Africa or 4 + the hosts.

Well fought Angola. Very, very poorly played Mexico. Dismal.
