So I got a book several years ago on candy making. Mostly chocolates, but it has things like marshmallow and marzipan and maple sugar candies (and other things that I haven't been as motivated to try yet)... and candied fruit. When I read the candied fruit section, I decided I wanted to try it on a small pumpkin. That was in spring, and, well, ( Read more... )

I guess you could buy a small pumpkin...though I guess those mini-pumpkins that are for decorative purposes are not actually the same as the eating kind.

oh, yes. I was originally thinking a small sugar pumpkin, maybe 5" across. I hear those mini pumpkins can be eaten but I've never really believed that... though if I convince myself they are, they may be prettier candied pumpkins...

Do you cut up the pumpkin into pieces? If so, how about butternut squash or yams? I believe the former is often used along with pumpkin in pumpkin pie.

well, the idea of the pumpkin was partly because it could be a container for other candy. That and the pictures from my book are just that cool as whole fruits

I bet you can just do part of the pumpkin, and use the rest for food. Or perhaps you can make a semi-naked jack o' lantern out of it....

(as I say for thomas) the idea of the pumpkin was partly because it could be a container for other candy and the pictures from my book with whole candied fruits are inspiring. I wasn't ever thinking a big pumpkin, not the mini ones you get at star, but like a 4"-8" across pumpkin.

1) They make tiny real pumpkins now too - not just the weird flat decorative ones. (These look similar, They're a bit smaller than my two fists together - http://www.veseys.com/us/en/store/vegetables/pumpkin/babypumpkins/kandykornplus)

2) These are the best (and only) truffles I've ever had: http://www.premiumchocolatiers.com/chocolate-collections-c-1.html
