Honestly, I don't know your sister and what her "core values" are, but to me denying the Holocaust is a deal-breaker thing. It's too huge to ignore! And it shows utter stupidity on his part (There are LITERALLY pictures, documents, books, people who survived and talked about it ...) Not believing history means that you're going to look for conspirations everywhere, even in stuff like medicine, wellfare and real life issues. That's very dangerous.

I hope your sister will eventually understand this. Best of luck to you!

I mean, probably the harshest (but not regretted) thing I said during this conversation is that she was surprised and a bit hurt I hadn't felt able to directly ask her how things were going with him, and said, "it's like you don't know me at all". I said, "I don't know you at all, you're dating a Holocaust denier."

Oh wow - I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. I simply can't imagine a person denying the Holocaust, no less having to actually interact with someone like that.

Interacting with him was VERY WEIRD and terrible. Especially because like, it's nothing he said directly to me? But now I know, it just hangs around him like a bad smell. You never forget, or at least I didn't. And it makes you feel like you're going mad because everyone else is acting normal.

I cannot wrap my mind around 'Holocaust denier'. I've heard of them, but it just boggles. This isn't ancient history; it's FUCKING RECORDED HISTORY! How can anyone sit there and say it didn't happen, when there are still people alive today WHO LIVED THROUGH IT?!

Yeah, I have no idea. I completely share your bafflement. This is someone with a PhD!!!!!!! Like, he understands research, and evidence, and judging sources - he has to, he's a professional scientist! Working in a Cambridge lab! WTAF????????????????????????????????????
