Also. What is with so many yarns only being sold in 50g skeins? The hell? I mean, yeah, maybe so you don't buy more than exactly what you need for a project, but wouldn't you like the option of, say, buying two 500g skeins and then however many 100 or 50g to make up the last bit? I know the yarn answer - if the yarn is from European the size of put ups is dictated by the EU. I am not making this up.

What type of fiber are you using? If wool, you can spit splice. If not wool, then use a Russian join. A lot of thinner (esp. fingering weight) yarns are sold in 50g skeins because that is the average amount for a single sock. Also, larger skeins are harder to ball up. And if you are doing colorwork you don't want to have a huge amount of yarn leftover. One option is to look online for companies that do sell in larger quanities - I know some companies sell cones of yarn online but not in stores.

I'm trying to figure out what I want to make this lace hoodie with, the green one in this Interweave Knits issue that Cait and I were talking about the other day. I want it to be some sort of blend, hopefully without wool because I want a cool summer top. So I'm just shopping around, looking at colors and prices of bamboo, cotton, hemp, silk, and linen blends.

Also, thanks for the tip on getting cones from the company. I'm looking at Euroflax, which might end up too pricey for me for this project, but they do offer cones for sportweight and lace, so I'll look at this for other companies.

aaaa someone tell me the perfect summer yarn for this project!
