[OOC] The new demon roster

Dec 17, 2009 02:18

This isn't really complete yet, because every time I think I'm done, I remember some other demon I wanted him to have. But this is the current roster as it stands (note that most of these are custom builds taken straight from my current save, and a few have had their skill sets toned down):

Demon order PYRO (Investigate skill: Ignite)
Ukobach
Personality: Punk
Conversational skill: Fast Talk
Frail: Ice/Elec, Null: Fire
Skills:
Combat: Maragi, Pulinpa, Fire Slash (combo)
Passive: Endure

Notes: Aside from a few more skills and a level boost - Ukobach is no longer the lowest level Pyro demon - there hasn't been any real change. This extends to camp; Ukobach is still your basic Internet troll minus the Internet (unless he's commandeered Raidou's laptop again), with the occasional flash of goodheartedness. Ukobach was the first demon Raidou could pact with in the first game, and while he doesn't retain that role in the second, he will, if you have a DSRK1 save, join you without Raidou having to negotiate. Raidou's kept him around despite his weakness largely due to that.

Incidentally, "Frail" indicates a weakness that results in the demon being stunned when hit with that attack type, while "Weak" means the attack simply does more damage than usual.

Gdon
Personality: Beast
Conversational skill: Extortion
Frail: Ice, Strong: Mind, Null: Fire
Skills:
Combat: Raging Blast (combo), Scorch Slash (combo), Hellfire, Thunderbolt, Tempest, Rakukajaon, Megidolaon (combo)
Passive: Destructive Joy, Mage's Craft, Hero's Might, Lucky Capote, Ice Resist, Null Mortal

Notes: For some reason, Atlus dumbed the Beast-type demons down; they now use ME GRIMLOCK speech outside of battles (but not in battle, where their conversation snippets include proper use of contractions, personal pronouns, and verbs). I am ignoring this, as Gdon's in-camp personality has pretty much been set; she will still be the same tsundere tigerdemon who can speak in complete sentences, albeit in ALL CAPS, because that's how the beast-types speak in Megaten games. She remains fanatically devoted to Raidou and will straight-up try to kill anyone who attempts to harm him.

Pyro demons no longer seem to be able to learn ice spells (and vice versa); naturally, I compensated by giving Gdon the most ridiculous skill set I could. I don't think any of those skills do anything less than heavy damage, and Hellfire, Thunderbolt, and Tempest do severe piercing damage. Raging Blast is a physical combo, while Scorch Slash does fire damage. Megidolaon, of course, does Almighty-type and is really good for ending battles before they start.

Demon order FROST (Investigate skill: Cool Down)
Jubokko
Personality: Old Man
Conversational skill: Patter
Frail: Fire/Elec, Strong: Ice/Mind, Null: Death
Skills:
Combat: Diarama, Cocytus, Mabufula, [Skills here]
Passive: Fire Resist, Elec Resist, [Skills here]

Notes: A cranky old walking demon tree. I still need to double-check his skills/resistances, because I wasn't expecting to play him. Although I should have.

Raiho
Personality: Jack/Hee-ho
Conversational skill: Sweet Talk
Weak: Fire, Null: Mind, Drain: Ice
Skills:
Combat: Megidolaon (combo), Tempest, Cocytus, Rakukajaon, Thunderbolt, Dia Aura, Frost Killer (combo)
Passive: Fire Resist, Destructive Joy, Mage's Craft, Hero's Might, Lucky Capote, Finders Keepers

Notes: Raiho also hasn't changed much. He's still the same goofy yet ambitious Frost who yearns to become Raiho Kuzunoha XV, and he still has absolutely no respect for the fourth wall. He also still doesn't learn Samurai Frost when you fuse him, although I may have him use it in camp if the situation calls for it (read: it's funny).

Destructive Joy, Mage's Craft, Hero's Might, and Lucky Capote are special passive skills you must initially get via one of Victor's fever fusions. Destructive Joy multiplies attack damage by 1.5, while Mage's Craft and Hero's Might randomly boost damage from, respectively, magic and physical attacks, and Lucky Capote randomly nullifies damage. Gdon has them, too, and I... uh, may have propagated them to as many demons in my compendium as possible. Finders Keepers allows Raiho to randomly find items on the ground if Raidou happens to have him out while not in battle.

Yamata no Orochi
Personality: Beast
Conversational skill: Extortion
Frail: Elec, Strong: Phys/Force; Drain: Ice/Gun
Skills:
Combat: Mabufudyne, Glacial Blast, Ice Drain, Cocytus, Megidolaon (combo), Freeze Slash (combo), Samrecarm
Passive: Destructive Joy, Mage's Craft, Hero's Might, Lucky Capote, Elec Resist, Null Mortal

Notes: He really, really doesn't need Cocytus and Glacial Blast; Cocytus does a lot more damage. Oh, well.

Orochi, as a Beast-type, also got dumbed down, which I am once again ignoring as his in-camp personality is also set. He will still be the same arrogant asshole who dislikes humans on general principle, really wishes people still made sacrifices to him, and won't shut up about either point.

Demon order VOLT (Investigate skill: Light Up, Inspect)
Agathion
Personality: Little Kid
Conversational skill: Patter
Frail: Force, Weak: Gun, Null: Elec
Skills:
Combat: Zio, Bolt Slash (combo)
Passive: Luck Chakra

Notes: Volt demons get an extra Investigative skill: Light Up, which illuminates dark areas. This is absolutely necessary, as dark areas tend to hide banana peels, and slipping and falling on those can lead to Raidou dropping money and losing demons. You can see why one would want to avoid that. Inspect uncovers hidden items and the like.

Agathion also remains the same - kind of bratty, but goodhearted overall, and very protective of Raidou. He still collects beetles of all types, and occasionally nags Raidou to take him beetle-hunting.

Oboroguruma
Personality: Undead
Conversational skill: Fast Talk
Frail: Force, Strong: Phys, Null: Gun, Drain: Elec
Skills:
Combat: Ziorati, Rush, Electric Crush (combo), Zanrati, Null Force, Dia Aura, Null Mind
Passive: Force Resist, Stamina Chakra, Life Bonus

Notes: Zombie Car Demon has not undergone any personality change. If you happen to have a nice car, he will mack on it. His undead heart belongs to Akio's car, though. He is also wont to pUNisH yOU iN tHE nAMe oF tHe fUlL mOon.

...Although he might actually be female; the legend originally involved the ghost of a woman killed by an ox-cart or carriage.

Kohryuu
Personality: Knight
Conversational skill: Debate
Frail: Force, Strong: Fire/Ice, Null: Death/Mind, Drain: Elec
Skills:
Combat: Thunderbolt, Dekaja, Megidolaon (combo), Tempest, Cocytus, Hellfire, Samrecarm
Passive: Destructive Joy, Mage's Craft, Hero's Might, Lucky Capote, Force Resist, Agni's Blessing

Notes: HELL YES GIANT DRAGON.

Kohryuu doubles as one of Raidou's in-combat demons and as his most efficient form of transportation; he can ferry Raidou from place to place and region to region much more quickly than, say, streetcars. Agni's Blessing raises all stats by 3. Like Orochi, Raiho, and Oboroguruma, Raidou had to defeat him in combat before he could form a pact with him.

In camp, Kohryuu is fairly affable. He tends to behave quite regally, although he's not without a sense of whimsy.

I am unsure of my final rosters for Wind and Fury, so the listings for these two orders are tentative:

Demon order WIND (Investigate skill: Kamikaze, Scout)
Sandalphon
Personality: Knight
Conversational Skill: Debate
Frail: Death, Weak: Gun, Drain: Force
Skills:
Combat:: Mazandyne, Samrecarm, Force Drain, Rakukajaon, Tempest, Mediarama, Cyclone Stab (combo)
Passive: Destructive Joy, Mage's Craft, Hero's Might, Lucky Capote, Null Mortal, First Aid

Notes: Grandfathered in, after some deliberation, even though Raidou really doesn't need two wind demons. He likely won't see much in the way of combat use, but he might get bounced off the other angels in camp.

First Aid restores a portion of the demon's HP after a battle.

Metatron
Personality: Knight
Conversational skill: Debate
Weak: Gun, Strong: Ice/Elec, Null: Death/Mind, Drain: Force
Skills:
Combat: Tempest, Cyclone Stab (combo), Megidolaon (combo), Tarukajaon, Hellfire, Samrecarm, Cocytus
Passive: Destructive Joy, Mage's Craft, Hero's Might, Lucky Capote, Agni's Blessing, Vengeance Seal

Notes: Wind demons also have a new investigative skill: Kamikaze, which allows Raidou to travel instantaneously from place to place within a dungeon via wind currents. Vengeance Seal revives a demon once per battle with 50% of their HP.

Metatron is the strongest Wind demon in the game. I'm not sure how much play he'll get in camp, to be honest, aside from bouncing him off of random angels.

Demon order FURY (Investigate skill: Use Force)
Minamoto no Yoshitsune
Personality: Punk
Conversational skill: Sweet Talk
Weak: Mind, Strong: Gun/Force, Null: Death
Skills:
Combat: Raging Blast (combo), Tarukaja, Cross Slash (combo), Rakukaja, Frenzy, Mighty Blow, Tempest
Passive: Destructive Joy, Mage's Craft, Lucky Capote, Hero's Might, Halve Mind, Vengeance Seal

Notes: Like Ukobach, Yoshitsune is a Punk; as such, he swears a lot, is generally uncouth, loves a good brawl, and is all about anarchy. In the first game, Raidou first had to defeat him (and a large number of Kurama Tengu) in battle to earn the right to fuse him. It's unclear how he became a demon.

Yoshitsune also has the Investigate skill Provoke, which raises the encounter rate. Given his in-game personality, this is entirely fitting.

Cu Chulainn
Personality: Knight
Conversational skill: Charisma
Frail: Death, Strong: Phys/Fire/Elec, Null: Gun
Skills:
Combat: Cross Slash (combo), Winged Fury, Mag Bullet (combo), Raging Blast (combo), Tempest, Hellfire, Megidolaon (combo)
Passive: Destructive Joy, Mage's Craft, Hero's Might, Lucky Capote, Null Mortal, Halve Mind

Notes: Here largely so I could have him interact with Ivalice characters at some point.

Shiva
Personality: Knight
Conversational skill: Sweet Talk
Strong: Fire/Elec/Ice/Force, Null: Death, Drain: Phys
Skills:
Combat: Mighty Blow, Raging Blast (combo), Makakajaon, Thunderbolt, Hellfire, Skeptic Crush (combo), Cocytus
Passive: Destructive Joy, Mage's Craft, Hero's Might, Lucky Capote, First Aid, Halve Mind

Notes: Those are some really nice resistances. And he tends to give out Somas when he levels up, so.

Demon order PAGAN (Investigate skill: Read Mind)
Inugami
Personality: Beast
Conversational skill: Patter
Frail: Fire, Strong: Mind, Null: Death
Skills:
Combat: Rakukajaon, Megidolaon (combo), Samrecarm, Tempest, Mediarama, Diarahan, Patra
Passive: Fire Resist, Destructive Joy, Mage's Craft, Hero's Might, Lucky Capote, Magic Boost

Notes: Most ridiculous skill set for a low-level demon ever, Y/N? Seriously, I love my Ultimate Noodledog.

Inugami, unlike the other Beast-types, does speak in broken sentences. It seems to work for him, though, and really, he's not stupid - he just doesn't speak well. He's a lot more friendly than the Inugami that serves as the first boss of the game. XD Just try not to endanger Raidou in any way; he will take exception to it (just ask Thor). Otherwise, he's pretty even-tempered and likes making friends.

Black Frost
Personality: Jack/Hee-ho
Conversational skill: Extortion
Frail: Force, Null: Gun/Fire/Death, Drain: Ice
Skills:
Combat: Cocytus, Hellfire, Megidolaon (combo), Tempest, Thunderbolt, Mamudoon, Dekaja
Passive: Force Resist, Destructive Joy, Mage's Craft, Hero's Might, Lucky Capote, Halve Mind

Notes: Of course, I included him. He's Black Frost.

As a Pagan-order demon, Black Frost can learn spells of all four elements. Naturally, that is what I did with him; he was a mainstay for dungeon-crawling.

Mara [NOTE: Link NSFW.]
Personality: Old Man
Conversational skill: Sweet Talk
Frail: Fire, Strong: Phys, Null: Gun/Mind, Drain: Death
Skills:
Combat: Cursed Emission, Mad Rush, State of Bliss, Hellfire, Dormina, Eternal Rest (combo), Thunderbolt
Passive: Destructive Joy, Mage's Craft, Hero's Might, Lucky Capote, Fire Resist, Drain

Notes: ...Yep. He's a giant talking penis in a chariot. Mara's inclusion was also not expected, but Raidou would not have left him running around camp.

Cursed Emission is an Almighty attack with a chance to dizzy the foes it hits; State of Bliss is a regen-type spell. Eternal Rest instantly kills any enemy on the field who happens to be asleep - no exceptions. Drain increases the amount of MAG gained from attacks.

Lilith
Personality: (Old) Lady
Conversational skill: Sexy Voice
Frail: Ice, Weak: Gun, Strong: Elec/Mind, Null: Phys/Death
Skills:
Combat: Dormina, Mamudoon, Eternal Rest (combo), State of Bliss, Death Drain, Cocytus, Mediarama
Passive: Destructive Joy, Mage's Craft, Hero's Might, Lucky Capote, Ice Resist, Magic Boost

Notes: Last game, Lilith had the Old Woman personality type. This game, Atlus added a new personality type, Lady, which is what Lilith wound up with. She will probably continue to sound like a dotty but somehow creepy aunt in camp, though. She remains absolutely devoted to her "Raidou-chan."

Mediarahan doesn't exist in DSRK2, thus Mediarama. Lilith also has the skill Intimidate, which lowers the encounter rate.

Beelzebub
Personality: Knight Old Man
Conversational skill: Panic Urge
Weak: Gun, Strong: Phys/Ice/Elec/Force, Null: Mind, Drain: Death
Skills:
Combat: Mamudoon, Skeptic Crush (combo), Makakajaon, Cocytus, Hellfire, Megidolaon (combo), Thunderbolt
Passive: Destructive Joy, Mage's Craft, Hero's Might, Lucky Capote, Agni's Blessing, Moonlight Rage

Notes: Beelzebub's personality was changed from Old Man in DSRK1 to Knight in DSRK2; however, as his in-camp personality is already established, he's still going to be an Old Man. (Besides, it's funnier.)

Moonlight Rage increases strength during a full moon. Yes, Beelzebub instills panic when he talks to other demons; more accurately, he causes random reactions. He also has Intimidate. I mean, would you want to get in his way?

Skill is also tentative:

Demon order SKILL (Investigate skill: Transform, Demonstrate)
Tam Lin
Personality: Gentleman
Conversational skill: Sweet Talk
Frail: Death, Weak: Mind, Strong: Physical/Elec/Force
Skills:
Combat: Winged Fury, Elec Bullet (combo), Dormina, Dia Aura, Ziorati, Rakukaja, Media
Passive: Destructive Joy, Mage's Craft, Hero's Might, Lucky Capote, Null Mortal, Halve Mind

Notes: Swapped out High Pixie, on the off chance we get a Nagi in camp. Will likely not see combat, although I wouldn't mind playing with the Transform skill at some point. Tam Lin is a palette swap of Cu Chulainn.

Demon order FIEND (Investigate skill: NONE)
Alice
Personality: Little Girl
Conversational skill: Debate
Strong: Fire/Ice/Elec/Force, Null: Gun/Mind, Drain: Death
Skills:
Combat: Hellfire, Tempest, Cocytus, Thunderbolt, Petra, Mamudoon, Marin Karin
Passive: Destructive Joy, Mage's Craft, Hero's Might, Lucky Capote, Magic Boost, Agni's Blessing

Notes: I have no idea why I kept Marin Karin.

Alice is another demon who has to be defeated in battle before Raidou can gain her assistance - in both games, in fact, although in the second game he must be of Chaos alignmnent. To make up for her excellent resistances, she has an appalling Vitality stat; to make up for this, I made sure she had distance attacks so she wouldn't need to get that close.

Alice was raised and is doted upon by her "uncles," Belial and Nebiros. She originally appeared with them in Shin Megami Tensei I, which is a possible future in Raidou's timeline. She is a very lonely girl who dearly wants to have friends; unfortunately, she tends to kill them all so they'll stay with her - which is also a callback to SMTI. In fairness, she usually asks first; granted, she'll try to kill you anyway, but hey, she asked.

White Rider
Personality: Fiend
Conversational skill: Extortion
Frail: Ice, Strong: Phys, Null: Gun/Fire/Death/Mind
Skills:
Combat: Mighty Blow, Flare Slash (combo), Maragidyne, Thunderbolt, Hellfire, Tempest, Cocytus
Passive: Destructive Joy, Mage's Craft, Hero's Might, Lucky Capote, Ice Resist, Magic Boost

Notes: The visual was too much to resist.

The Fiends (and the Evils) are accidental fusions, and normally only learn three skills. You can do a full moon Mitama fusion, though, which results in the demon retaining random skills from its own skill set and/or the Mitama's. This is useful in many cases, but particularly so for Fiends and Evils.

The Fiends begin showing up randomly around Chapter 3 of the second game, ambushing Raidou during new moons. For the most part, defeating them makes them stop showing up and allows Raidou to (accidentally) fuse them; the exception is Kageboushi, who will continue to attack Raidou no matter how many times he is defeated. The White Rider corresponds to Conquest (i.e. the slot taken up by Pestilence in more modern times), and yes, his horse does have eyes pretty much everywhere except where they're supposed to be.

Pale Rider
Personality: Fiend
Conversational skill: Extortion
Frail: Fire, Strong: Phys, Null: Gun/Force/Mind, Drain: Death
Skills:
Combat: Megidolaon (combo), Mamudoon, Thunderbolt, Hellfire, Tempest, Cocytus, Tarukajaon
Passive: Destructive Joy, Mage's Craft, Hero's Might, Lucky Capote, Fire Resist, Magic Boost

Notes: Hi, kids! It's Death!

Like the other Riders, Pale Rider will ambush Raidou during new moons. As an enemy, he is an enormous pain because as his HP goes down, he creates copies of himself; for me, this led to fighting three of him at once. Oddly enough, both Pale and White Rider tend to act like trolls in camp. Really, really morbid trolls.
