Last I had mine checked it was 213. DO NOOOT let them put you on a statin medication!!!! It is known to have horrible side effects particularly for young people. I was on them for about 2 weeks, and I felt horrible - many side effects. It was not good! There are other medications that are more effective for younger people and most doctors do not want to put you on anything for a while. They might have you try over the counter medications first.
Well, I'm hoping that my doctor will just give me some recommendations for diet or something. I don't really want to start cholesterol medication at 26. (I know, it's for 8-year-olds now.) I think this is fairly silly. I mean, I have gained weight in the last year, but that means I'm at about 122 or 124. I don't eat red meat every week, much less every day. I wish I didn't have any genes.
Yeah, I don't think a good doctor would put a 26 yr old on medication. I know my current doctor said she would have me try fiber therapy or fish oil before medication, so ask about that in addition to diet recommendations. 205 is not extreme - it's JUST over the top.
Also--ask what the mix is between good and bad cholesterol. In my own case, my cholesterol is over 200, but my doctor says I have more good cholesterol than anyone else she has ever seen, so she's not concerned about me.
Well, the cholesterol reading was from when I gave blood, which means that I hadn't been fasting (and they don't break the numbers down for you). So I'm going in this morning to get my blood taken when I'm fasting, and then I'll get the individual numbers. Of course, it's possible my total will now be 175 or something.
