That NYADA letter is a great cliff hanger to the story so far. ;O) Rachel's reaction is typical, since Kurt getting a starring role in the Mikado pulled focus from her. Mercedes' reaction to me would seem more like Kurt no longer confiding in her, so her hurt would be genuinely about the lack of communication. Mercedes never had the same type of "rivalry" with Kurt as Rachel, so to me her hurt feelings would be more about their actual friendship. Rachel loves Kurt and vice versa but their competitiveness is a different dynamics than the Kurt/Mercedes one.

And it is so faithful to character that Will would just obliviously blurt out Kurt's role to the rest of the choir.
