Revised My Very First Story... and other rantings and ramblings

Unfortunately, I've felt like warmed-over crap since Christmas.  After a ton of tests last week, my doctor's office just called today to tell me to go pick up a 14-day round of antibiotics.  Hooray! That's the 3rd round of antibiotics I've been on this year.  So, yeah, sick and tired of being sick and tired.  Anyway, it's probably not surprising ( Read more... )

I hope you feel better soon. I can't believe you've had to go on that many anti-biotics in so short a space of time.

I actually have no idea what my first fanfic was. According to FF.Net it's a Cardcaptors story... the only one I ever wrote. Lol. I have only the vaguest of memories of being involved in that fandom.

As for re-reading it, I have this thing where I think my writing ability peaked at thirteen or fourteen and everything I wrote after that is crap. Lol.

And I'm the same with the lack of 3rd person omniscient POVs when that's all I used to write. I can't do that anymore.

Fandom sucks, that's why I don't really hang out in it. Or at least, not anywhere where people just talk about their opinions.

Occasionally I'll read a fic and like it enough to check out the author's journal and some people... sometimes I wonder how I can like their fics when their actual opinions are so far from my own.

I know! re: the number of antibiotics. Sometimes I get paranoid and think I have one of the new super bugs that antibiotics won't kill. But, my dad went through this exact same ordeal years ago with a kidney infection and they finally got it cured (after 10 days in the hospital). I just hope it doesn't come to that for me. I've never been in the hospital *is chicken* :(

I know what you mean about sometimes enjoying the work of people who have opinions that are so far from your own. That is why I generally have only a passing interest in actors' and writers' personal lives. I'm afraid I won't like what I see or it will somehow change how I enjoy their work. Take Tom Cruise, for instance, I grew up with a crush on that man and now he has to make with the crazy so often that I just can't watch one of his movies anymore. I can't seperate the public persona from the part he's playing. I suppose I'd rather not see behind the curtain. Which reminds me, the movie Oz the Great and Powerful was very enjoyable. Just so you know :)

I didn't want to mention superbugs and freak you out. =) Although my sister who is a nurse reckons she has a superbug, like it's no big deal. I've never been in the hospital either. Except for at the time of my birth and for visits. =)

I actually don't mind being turned off the fictional things that people do because of their personal lives. But it's only really happened to me in degrees, not completely.

I think I read the same thing about fandom that you did. Was the SPN fandom a lot nicer before? I just arrived, so it seems as good and bad as it has from my recent beginning here ... but then again, I'm quite careful about the places I frequent on the internet because some places are full of really nasty, mean people, and that goes for anywhere, any fandom. Also, when it comes to celebrities, so many people seem to have the notion that they can take anything, forgetting that they are people like anyone else, and cruel words hurt them just as much as they hurt anyone else ... and yes, they also have internet access.

Anyway ... I hope very much that you feel better soon. I've been struggling with health problems of my own for years, and it sucks!! I wish us both excellent health from here on out ....

I don't know that this (or any) fandom has ever been nicer, to be quite honest. I think right now I'm just extra intolerant of any BS.

My first foray into online fandom was back when Buffy was still on. Frankly, I found it to be a major turn off the way many people acted. After that experience, I was content to just enjoy my shows by myself. Then I got this urge to write some fic and ended up back in fandom. This time around I've been very careful though. Like you, I tend to stick to what I consider safe corners. There are lots of really good people out there who are also just looking for a place to further ENJOY their fandom and connect with other fans. It's too often very hard to find that place because of what I like to believe are a few really loud, tinhats that like to set up shop in some spots and ruin it for everyone else.

Thanks for the well wishes :) I also wish us both excellent health in the future. Being sick is no fun at all. It tends to color everything blah.
