I have to tell myself all sorts of things to justify buying things!
I have cats that shed like crazy things, so I take off any outdoor clothes as soon as I get home, so there have to be indoor clothes that don't see the light of day - these are, primarily, it has to be said, pyjamas, but on this occasion, I convinced myself that the soft jersey trousers (Still unworn!) were the way to go...
I have the same problem - I bought a pair of slobbing-around-the-house-trousers that seem too nice for slobbing (knitted! but tailored! but so comfortable!) and have been temporarily upgraded to visiting-downmarket-eating-venues-for-casual-lunches trousers. Trousers are complicated things.
I have trousers that currently have mud and/or grass on them and can go a couple of days before being washed, which are only good for being at home and doing gardening; trousers which are too disreputable to wear out of the house even when they're clean on; trousers which are equally suitable for gardening or for popping down to the shops, as long as they don't have mud on them yet; trousers that are suitable for going to dinner, but too uncomfortable to sit down in... There are so many graduations of trousers and what they're suitable for!
I am one of those people who have pretty much one style of trousers - I found a pair that fit ok, comfortable and decent - and then just bought many pairs of them. (Seriously, MANY) and now I have those, pyjamas and this one pair of nice, comfy but too posh looking trousers.
