Draco couldn't take much more of it. Between his mother, Astoria and her mother, the demands of the upcoming wedding was proving to be too much for him. Being the deputy to the Minister of Magic, the second highest position in the Ministry of Magic, was beginning to look like mere child's play compared to the incessant number of questions and options that one simple sacrament maintained. Certainly, there were only so many types of ivory white roses tipped with pink one could chose for a boutonniere. As the groom, was it a command that he be at every selection making meeting?

Using the tension of the wedding as an excuse, even if it was a legitimate one, Draco asked to take the last week off before the wedding to settle some personal affairs. The Minister of Magic was kind enough to allow him the additional time off. The Minister chuckled as he signed the papers for Draco's extended vacation.

"Going to sow the last of your wild oats before being tied down to the old ball and chain?" he mused as he sealed the papers and cast the spell on them to be duplicated and sent to the correct personnel and files.

"Um... something like that, Sir," Draco replied. Even though he'd been told countless times to call Minister Shacklebolt by his first name, Kingsley, he couldn't say it out loud. The man's persona and aura demanded a certain level of respect. Draco was still a bit terrified of him.

He had already told his family and Astoria that he needed to go away on some last minute state affairs before their marriage. He’d stressed his importance to his father when he had said that. He had made certain to sound remorseful when he said it so they would think it was another burden to bear.

That last bit of deception made his face change into a full-blown grin as he walked out the door; his luggage had been shrunk and was placed inside his coat pocket. He knew no one would be looking for him for the next few days as he walked to the international Floo fireplaces for his scheduled departure.

The next morning, he stood leaning against the old wooden fence as he watched the sunrise. He had arrived at the Malfoy ranch in southern Colorado the day before and saw that everything had been prepared, as he had instructed some of their house-elves. It was a chilly morning, but he didn't want to wear shirt. Off in the distance he could hear the sounds of a combine harvester reaping the first wheat crops of the season. Some how, it felt right to be as close to naked as possible here. The natural life magic that surrounding this area was abundant. He could almost breath it in as he walked through the pasture.

He watched as on the other side of the fence a fawn startled at his approach. It rose from the thick grasses and scampered off into the woods. He could see further in that his mother stood silent and watchful. Her eyes never leaving Draco as she waited for her young to approach. He watched as the young deer nudged up to his mother before both of them took off into the thickening darkness. It was a beautiful scene, and he wondered for a moment if he would tell anyone about it.

As he stood there lost in thought, Draco realized almost too late that his lover had snuck up behind him.

He felt warm arms come around his waist as his lover’s strong chest rubbed against Draco's shoulder blades. When he breathed in the scent of his lover, he realized that this place, right here, was where he belonged. Harry seemed to be almost as one with the area since he smelled like earth, fresh air, and musk.

Hot lips grazed his shoulder as he reached back to bring Harry closer to him. They were mad to make this rendezvous so close to his wedding and the birth of Harry’s first child. He knew he was a selfish-bastard for wanting it, but he couldn’t help himself. Nobody could bring him peace and satisfaction like Harry could. No one.

“So, now that you have me for the next seventy-two hours, what would you like to do first?” Harry asked as his kisses moved from Draco’s shoulders up his neck.

Draco mouth rolled into a lazy smile. He turned to face his lover as he brought his mouth close to Harry’s.

“I think we’re wearing far too much clothing for what I want to do now,” he whispered before their lips met.

As he felt Harry pulling at his jeans to tug them off of him, he knew they would keep sneaking off to meet. What they had between them transcended family and friends, none of which would understand their needs anyway. This was just a stolen moment with the one he truly loved.

Yes, he was a selfish bastard, but sometimes when you want it all, it’s worth the time to get it.
