Okay, I spent way too much time today tracking down Spanish-language music videos about Obama. I have a vague idea about an article but basically I am just too tired to do my actual work.

So anyway. I found this. It will only make sense to those of us who know the oeuvre of Pedro Infante and can appreciate the sheer utter brilliance of ( Read more... )

No, it's pretty great for someone with no context too, actually.

On a completely different note except for it being in Spanish and in re: Obama, you got this from idlerat, right?
Viva Obama

If you had the context it would be even cooler! See, Pedro Infante (the body underneath Obama's face in the vid) was the most important male movie star/singer in Mexico, ever. Like John Wayne and Elvis in one package. And he, famously, liked to play cross-race parts - in his last movie he was a humble Indian servant (it was awful) and before that he starred in the Mexican version of ... oh, hell, what was the name of the 1930s tearjerker movie where the rich woman, who is passing as white, refuses to acknowledge that the African-American maid is really her mother? So it's really interesting to have him as Obama, anyway. All of this is further complicated by the weird relations between African-Americans and Mexicans (at least in Mexicans' public discourse it's a weird relationship) and and and ...

I dunno. It's just really interesting, is all.

Hee hee hee hee hee!

Is that just supposed to be a gringo accent, or is the pronunciation affected by having his head cut in half?
