After I had the same operation, I couldn't really walk around comfortably upstairs and downstairs and around my house for about a week. But they didn't give me any of the good meds, I think.
They wouldn't let me take any Dilaudin home from the hospital with me, no matter how carefully I explained about how I might need it for laters. *sobs pitifully* I did have a wide variety of other opiates/opioids: three dosages of tramadol, oxcodone, hydromorph contin, and whatever the hell is in percocet. You should see our dining-room table - it's all flowers and pill bottles.
But now, at almost a week past surgery, I am just taking anti-inflammatories rather than narcotics, and pretty comfortable except when I cough, or at the end of a one-mile walk. So your prediction about waiting a week was spot-on.
