NAME: Aina Desrochers
SERIES: Pokémon (gameverse)
HISTORY: Aina grew up with her paternal grandparents in Blackthorn City. For the early years of her life, both of her parents were distinctly absent. For generations, the Desrochers family served as trainers in the Blackthorn Gym. However, because her father became terrified of Dragon Pokémon due to an incident with rampaging Gyrados and thus couldn't win his strict parents' approval, he ran away from home and stumbled his way into Team Rocket. Aina's grandparents constantly talked down about her father and her mother (who was also a member of Team Rocket) to the little girl, as if it would dissuade her from walking her father's path. Her grandparents put a heavy emphasis on tradition, nobility, and upholding the family name. They heavily disapproved of anything that would tarnish the family's reputation, including any life that didn't involve becoming a Dragon Pokémon trainer.
Although Aina grew up in a world where anything material she needed or wanted would be given to her in excess, it was also one that was not loving or accepting. Aina took after both of her parents (her father's appearance, her mother's personality quirks), and under her grandparents' roof, she learned that she could not be who she was, as any attempts to be herself were fiercely shot down and repressed. Despite her young age, she started viewing herself as a weak bug, one that was wrinkled and ugly and unwanted. Her interest in prehistoric Pokémon was born from her desire to be strong; after all, if she became a trainer of such strong Pokémon, that would mean she was strong, too. Other people would admire her, she was led to believe, and then they would accept her.
When Team Rocket was finally dissolved by the efforts of Johto's Champion, Aina's father returned home for the sole purpose of taking her away from his parents. The first thing he told her was to forget anything they told her, because he knew what effect they could have. His last acts of stealing would be to assure that they would be able to get far, far away from any land involving his parents or Team Rocket -- money, food, Pokémon, whatever was necessary. He also stole a Totodile from a breeder for Aina; it wasn't a dinosaur, but he figured it was close enough, and he wanted to start doing right by her to make up for not being there. The very last thing he stole were tickets to a ship that would sail them from Johto to Hoenn. From that point on, Aina's life turned around. Material needs were more difficult to come by, but her father showered her with love and affection, treating her like the princess he told her she was. From her new life, Aina learned that in order to truly be happy and get what she wanted, she had to work hard -- and honestly. Her father wanted to clean his hands of his life as a Team Rocket grunt, and he wanted to save his daughter from the experiences he had, so he heavily emphasized to her the importance of honesty and doing things right.
Over time, as she and her father scraped by paying the bills by doing whatever jobs they could, they also set aside some money. Aina wanted to travel, find prehistoric Pokémon fossils, and train dinosaur Pokémon. Despite his own fear of those types of Pokémon, her father wanted her to be able to do whatever she wanted (and also to be as supportive as his own parents never were), so they scrimped and saved until at last Aina could afford to set out on her own. In her adventures, she accumulated her very own team (adding Aron and Torkoal to her list), chasing down rumors of fossils that were just that, hunting down some of the rarer Pokémon (Tropius), and doing anything she could (that was honest, of course) to save up money to travel to other lands so she could discover fossils and dinosaur Pokémon there, too (in Unova, she dug up her very own Archen fossil). The latest addition to her team has yet to even hatch. A trainer's Hydreigon laid an egg, and he didn't want to raise another one, as they're difficult to handle; Aina was all too eager to take it off his hands, despite his warnings. This is also the last thing she is able to do before she finds herself waking up in Promenade.
TIMELINE: The day after receiving her Deino egg not long after arriving in Unova's Castelia City
PERSONALITY: Aina is the type of person who is difficult to miss, and she likes it that way. She is loud and overbearing, and she will make her opinions heard. Subtlety is something that she typically chooses to not employ, as she wants her points to come across clearly and doesn't have patience to wait for people to figure out what she means. She is also extremely honest, to the point of seeming to lack tact altogether. Honesty is the best policy, her father taught her, and she'll only lie when she's trying to get out of trouble or attempting to cover up a moment of blunder or weakness. When it comes to whether or not that dress makes you look fat, though... You might not want to ask Aina, because she'll tell you it's tight around your midsection and oh by the way you really need to do something else with your hair because um ew.
She is also notoriously quick to anger. It is her automatic reaction to pretty much anything that doesn't go the way she thought it would. She lost something? Time to stomp around and yell at anyone who's near. Someone jumped out and scared the living daylights out of her? How dare you, what is your problem, normal people don't do things like that! She lost a Pokémon match? Prepare for shrieks about how the other person must have cheated, or they just got lucky, that's all, she'll be back to pound you into the ground, you'll be sorry! Is she about to cry? No, no she's not, you're just imagining things, go away she doesn't want to talk to you ever again, just leave her alone! ... Needless to say, when Aina loses her temper, she becomes irrational, exaggerating, and more prone to throwing out insults she doesn't actually believe in. Her anger is her defense mechanism; whenever she's feeling weak, she pushes anyone and everyone away. She isn't confident in herself at all, and believes that she is just a hideous bug that no one wants or likes. She strives to overcome this by doing anything she can to appear and become strong; after all, if she's strong, then people will love her and want to keep her around, right?
Because of this, she's competitive; she wants to become strong, and to become stronger and prove her strength, she must do better than those around her. To her, though, strength isn't defined by earning badges, catching all the Pokémon ever, and winning all the contests. Strength is something that comes from deep down within. To be strong is to be honest and good, to walk your own path, to be successful at what you set out to do. Aina doesn't see yet that she all ready possesses many of the qualities she believes to be strong; she is honest (if brutally so), independent, and determined. She works hard and is surprisingly practical when it comes to money and survival. She instead sees herself as obnoxious, annoying, and overly dependent on what other people think of her. It is true that she is social and relies on others for validation, and she seeks in others acceptance and affection, but these are things that Aina sees as weak. She believes she needs to be able to stand on her own two feet and not need anyone ever, and as such, she has a lot to learn about human nature.
ABILITIES/POWERS: Aina herself has no powers; any kind of battle potential is reliant on her team of Pokémon, detailed
here. Otherwise, she's just your ordinary teenager who happens to be in shape.

FIRST PERSON:
[musebox post]THIRD PERSON:"Whatever they told you, forget it," said her father as soon as they left the mansion. "Don't believe them. They're mean, old, and bitter, okay? Just ignore them." Aina was leaving home for the first time. That mansion and that mountain town and those grandparents were all she knew, and all she ever thought she would know. She hadn't expected her father to come for her. No one had. And yet, here he was, holding her by the hand and taking her away from that mansion and that mountain town and those grandparents. Good riddance, she thought.
She was nine years old. She was nine years old and all ready bitter (like her grandparents?), all ready angry, all ready more than ready to pack up and leave this place. Her father told her they were going to run away, far, far away, where she'd never have to wear frilly dresses and go to stupid grown-up tea parties ever again.
"But I like frilly dresses," she said.
"Oh." Her father fidgeted awkwardly. "Well. If you want to, you can. You just don't have to. You know?"
She shrugged. "Okay. Can we get ice cream?"
They did. Her father kept glancing around them nervously as they sat outside at a table and ate their ice cream. Aina stared fixedly at a woman holding a Totodile. It was young -- she could tell because it was little and had itty bitty teeth -- and wriggly. It looked like a dinosaur. Her father noticed her staring.
"What are you looking at?"
Aina pointed. "It's just like a baby dinosaur."
Her father gupled. "Uh. Yeah. I guess so."
"I like dinosaurs," she said, kicking her feet.
"Yeah?" Her father frowned. She didn't know why. Maybe he didn't like dinosaurs. She shrugged and kept eating. Her father continued to stare at the woman and her baby Totodile.
ORIGINAL CHARACTER QUESTION: Her first reaction will be anger. This isn't Castelia City! Where is she?! How much money do you want? You know her father can't pay it, right? You're so stupid, kidnapping the daughter of a poor man! ... Over time, though, she will hopefully make friends, find acceptance in them, and find happiness. She'll get used to Promenade, just... with a lot of kicking and screaming and tossing her hair.
