OP may no longer be around, but still apologies that I couldn't help but make the ending more positive than the prompt implies. If only because on May 5 AC was apparently functioning normally. (Well, you know, he probably was on May 4 too, but poetic license and all that.)
Tuesday, May 4 1999From the moment he'd opened his eyes, Alastair had known that it was not going to be one of his better days. The fog of depression that hung over him made it that much harder to push ahead with managing the message going out to the media on Kosovo. In truth, it was probably the visit to the camp the day before that had propelled him into this bad place. The sights in Blace had affected him more than he had initially realised. He should have talked it through with Fiona, of course, but as ever there wasn't time, so he forced himself into the office to deal with the dithering of whether, when and how ground troups were going to be sent

Aww. This was bittersweet and beautifully written.
I really enjoyed the meticulous detail, and how closely it was tied in to RL events. It felt very real, and Alastair's refugee camp PTSD (that little girl who looked like Grace! *wibble*) made him sympathetic despite the outburst of violence. Their snarky, complicated, mildly abusive support of each other through adversity is my favorite part of Mandelbell.

Aw, thank you, that was a lovely comment!
Yeah, Tony's flapping somewhere because he's just decided to rewrite from scratch the speech that everyone has already said is excellent.
I have to admit I didn't fell terrifically inspired for this one, but something had to be done about the recurring 'No fills' pattern in the Newsletters... Also I recently had a trawl through old unfilled prompts, so more Mandelbell on the way. Maybe even tonight... The next will be a bit less fucked up but more slashy.

Hello, I posted a few days ago under 'Old prompt fills'. This is not meant to be fishing for comments, really; if you read it and didn't feel moved to comment, that's fine - just pointing it out in case you missed it, since you seemed so interested...

You respond with tears, but they are never true"
