He goes to live in a sleepy county cottage with David Laws who looks after him. Years later when a newly single Dcam steps down as leader/PM whatever he decides to look up a much stronger Nick.
DavidL. watches them resigned to the fact that Dcam will steal Nick away from him but wants Nick to be happy.
But seeing DCam makes Nick realise that he loves DLaws and they have a happy ending which involves one or more of the following:
A. They show up hand in hand at the Lib Dem conference and are JUST UTTERLY BAMF.
b. They sit outside their house sipping wine and watching a sun set
or C. They have a big fat Lib Dem wedding with the odd Tory invited like George or William.

"Oh. God," Nick muttered, and David leant forward as though it could help him to hear the words he was saying. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I didn't think. I'm letting everyone down. Why do I always let them down?"
Stupid! David told himself. Think before you speak.. He took a deep breath, and reminded himself that he could do this, that Nick was relying on him, and that failure was never, ever an option. "You're not letting anyone down," he said slowly and clearly, easing himself off the table and taking a small step towards Nick's desk, "but you're not well. You need time to recover. "It's me," David said into the phone in a low voice quite some time later.
"You got him home safely?" Danny's voice said at the other end of the line. He still sounded worried, as well he might. David couldn't help but admit that a rather large part of his own mind was still on tenterhooks.
"I took him to my flat," David said. "At least the press won't know where that is."
"David, nobody knows where that is," Danny said. "Which I still think is a little over the top, by the way ( ... )

Because of this fic, I'm also growing very fond of the thought of Nick/DLaws and that's saying a lot from a Clameron fan. You're doing a great job with this story and I'm already impatiently wanting the next update.
