David tried not to let it get to him. He was going places, moving up in the world. Ed was struggling at university, spending too much time at demonstrations and giving lisped speeches in defence of the Militant Tendency. They were both home, at Christmas, and Ed’s expression turned stony as he watched Kinnock on the evening news, hissing traitor. David patted his pocket, thinking of his wallet and his membership card, and knew Ed would live to regret it ( ... )

It was late, and he had probably had too much celebratory drink. Still he banged at Ed’s front door, demanding that his brother answer. Ed blinked at him groggily, the sight of him doing strange things to David, all mussed hair and oversized pyjamas. The shirt was slipping, showing collarbone, and David clenched his hands into fists at his side and called Ed a nasty little communist. Ed fought back, stubbornly, and said that at least he wasn’t an uncaring capitalist.

In Ed’s world, he’d always thought, everything was black and white.

They were the same height, but David was angry, used it to press Ed back against the wall, loom over him. I’m making a difference, he spat, crowding too close, your efforts are getting you nowhere. Ed made a noise, anger and hurt and frustration, and it was like déjà vu, with Ed gaining the upper hand, a complete role reversal.

I hate you, Ed told him, hands flat on the wall either side of his head, because I love you. You confuse everything. And, then, without warning, they were kissing and it wasn’t ( ... )

Intense!communist!Ed should become a fanon characterization because I absolutely love it, and the difficulties and the fights and the hatred between them, so strangely delicious.
