I get the feeling that, while sincere, the cheerful outlook and the slightly self-deprecating humour also has a specific purpose in mind: to show me, as well as the readers, that he is not his character. It is an obvious reminder, but one that is entirely justified. In a previous interview for the BBC, Mikhail revealed that he gets at least five hundred pieces of hate mail a week, that it is not uncommon for people to boo him whenever he walks down the street and that his own girlfriend (Alison Jones, who plays former Labour Cabinet member Hazel Blears and whom Mikhail met on set) refuses to watch his scenes ( ... )
