Welcome to our eighth prompt post.
As ususal, here are a few things to keep in mind:
1) All fills for prompts of the earlier prompt posts go in the post the prompt was posted in. No re-posting or splitting up prompts and fills.
2) Self-prompt when you post unprompted fic. (This means posting what the fill is about in a first comment, like a real

Maybe, if he'd tried a little bit harder, things would be different right now. But it all seemed like too much effort back then, to be nice to everyone and 'open up' and 'make connections' and all that other revolting stuff you have to go through to be close to people. When he was editing the diaries he found himself deliberately leaving in the nastiest things about the people who'd been kindest to him.
They would probably be hurt, but that was the point. If he wasn't cruel they might get the wrong idea.
It was a waste of time, anyway. As a kid none of his friends had liked him, once they really got to know him - even now he could see them looking at him that way, knew that if they ever got close enough they'd turn around in disgust. That was the thing: people moved too slowly for Alastair. All of them were on the wrong wavelength and most of them were in the wrong universe altogether ( ... )

"Spare me the clichés," growled Alastair, pushing Nick away and getting to his feet again. "And I was really starting to like you, too. Fuck." Scowling, he started to pace back and forth, never once meeting Nick's eyes. "'Cause you know, Nick, you're ever so clever and sweet and you have some bloody strong opinions and I like that. But I've heard this before and it doesn't end well." Alastair stopped and leant on the foot of the bed. "You think you're in love, do you? Well, remember this, kid; it'll come in handy. Love doesn't exist," he spat, throwing up a hand to silence Nick's protests. "It's all chemicals. It's just your body telling you to make offspring and it dies in months, and there's nothing ( ... )

I love that despite the hurt Nick isn't planning on giving up; he's accepted his feelings for Alastair and isn't trying to change the man, just open his eyes on what he's/they're missing out on because he's not allowing Nick in. It's also obvious that Alastair knows Nick is different from others he's been with in the past.

I to love nick been in way so naive, yet so sure of his feelings and so positive that in time alastair's going to come round despite the short term pain. I think the way he you have written Nick letting Alastair come to his own decision about this is fantastic- and of course I can imagine that no-one could force Alastair to change.
So would love to see what happens when/if Alastair decides to take the risk and un-thaw his emotions and let nick really see him.
