I seem to have added this pairing to my list of OTPs. And as a normally strictly!nulab authoranon, I decided to branch out a bit.

This is basically a bit of slighty naughty fluff.

Dialling the familiar number with quick fingers, Alan waited impatiently for an answer. Tucking himself into the corner of the couch, he gnawed on a fingernail, frowning when nobody picked up.

“Oh come on,” he muttered, “please be home…”

The repetitive rhythm of the dial tone ended and a grin spread over his face as he heard Charles say hello. As always the sound of the other man’s voice brought a pleasurable, slight shiver to his body. It was getting rather silly, how much the Scot’s voice alone affected him. But it had been so long since they had seen each other, and Alan had been feeling antsy all day, head filled with fevered fantasies of what would happen when they finally did get back together.

“It’s me,” he replied. “Just wanted to hear how you’re doing. And to check if you‘re missing me.”

He swore he could feel Charles’ answering chuckle all the way down to his toes.

“I have been very busy today, but I have managed to miss you a little still ( ... )

Wow, a rare pairing win right here. This was far hotter than I'd have thought it could be.

he just hoped nobody would ever think to tap his phone line.
This amuses me considering that Wikileaks cable that revealed that US spies had taken a "special interest" in Alan Duncan. It would be great to imagine them hacking into this particular phone conversation.
