the "Suggestions" post

A few words about the meme:
a) You are all amazing!
b) Keep it up!
c) I think I'll start another post here when the comments reach 3000. Otherwise it might get too chaotic Y / N?

Someone suggested it would be great to have some place to collect all the articles we're constantly using for/referencing in our fics.

Would you find it helpful if you ( Read more... )

O Great Mod! I have seen several autheranons separately mention the issue of filling old prompts and being discouraged/expecting no comments/holding off on posting/generally being a bit unenthused about it because the current system means no one really sees them. Readers also comment about fills they nearly missed/saw really late due to them being on old posts. The announce post isn't particularly effective here as it doesn't get much traffic compared to current prompt post. Outside of freezes, I think there's a (perfectly understandable) tendency to fixate on the current post.

The obvious solution to this seems to be to have an Announce-fill thread in each current prompt post -- then the links to new fills on old posts would appear on flat view, which would encourage old prompt filling and make sure readers who are interested don't miss out on great fic ( ... )

Author anon here who is putting off posting a really fucking huge burnballs fill for this exact say reason seconds this.

The more separate posts you have the less likely it is that all will be monitored. It might look nice, but you don't get the traffic.

Auth anon here who has posted to old posts and thought posting to the announce-thread wasn't worth it - yes, I'd post a note to an announce-fill post in the current post. Quite a neat idea, really.

I read the whole meme through my Inbox but I'm pretty sure that's quite rare. Actually - an announce post would let me stop doing that. Huh. Do I get two votes? :D

Agreed. I mostly come across new fills when looking through the delicious archive but as the entries remain backdated even when their status changes to filled I'm afraid a good number of them go unnoticed. This seems an excellent way of encouraging authors to fill prompts from old posts (especially those who like me tend to need more time and sometimes can't keep up with the pace of the meme).

I would absolutely love this! I posted a fill on an old prompt post a couple of days ago and I was definitely worried about it. I'd love to have a thread like this.

Another aye from me. Like one of the above anons, I read the entire meme through inbox. However, as someone who does post fic on old posts from time to time, I would definitely like a way of ensuring people find out about it.

This is a really, really good idea. Put me down on the 'Aye' list.

I like this idea. I like it a lot. Especially for me who likes to be very organised about how I look at the meme and have to do so in a particular way... this would be a perfect idea.

So that is a yea vote from me :D

As an authoranon who has filled old prompts, and then sat wondering if anyone can find my fill, I definitely think this is a good idea.

So an "aye" from me.

Not quite sure where to put this, so sticking it here out of the way.

The post alerting us to an old fill - as well as the pairing and possibly the version of the meme, would other readers like it to contain the prompt and any warnings? e.g.

Mandelsmirk
"Peter becomes increasingly enamoured of his own image and can't go more than an hour without practising."

I agree, warnings would be a good idea. I'll assume the mod implied that and also people are usually really sensible about these things here.

Great to see there's a fill thread in-post now, but what about chapter update notifications? Is that worth considering too?
