Title speaks for itself
-------------------------------------♥------------------♥
Soooo! I wrote this for the OneTVXQ forums and I thought I'd share it here since it's so long XD tell me what you think!
First, the analysis I took as a base thanks to edamame @ OneTVXQ forums XD ♥
"Aah…the PV interpretation. Hmm, I have already posted my interpretation in another forum but I guess I shall self-plagiarize, and post it here too. XD. And yes, I am probably over reading the message but here goes:
The PV’s theme is of darkness and trepidation. This is already obviously established in the over all Tim Burton-esque mood of the video. But beyond that, it deals with the qualms of Tohoshinki. The bits and pieces, such as the spider, old man, etc. show the fears of each, or rather, the antithesis of the members.
Yunho, the independent leader gets the spider. A spider is a predator; it traps its victims and renders them unmoving and helpless. This is the villain for Yunho. The leader cannot be confined. The leader must not be helpless for he is supposedly the one who helps and takes care of the people around him.
The pure Junsu, with a child's heart, on the other hand, gets the old disgruntled "rich man" (as distinguished by his ring and fashion. XD). The man in the video is supposedly Junsu in the future, and this is what he doesn't want to become. I remember him mentioning once in an interview, that when he grows old, he wants to be like Sekine san; someone who is kind hearted and free spirited. It's clear that the man in the video is what he fears or what he does not desire to be.
Next is Yoochun who is very sentimental and sensitive. He sees two children who looks much like a young "married" couple; we can see that at first he smiles, probably thinking that it was such a sweet scene. But then, the sight turns frightening as the two start making scary faces and they try to detach themselves from each other's hands (which seems to be stuck). We all know Micky's history and how his parents had fought and separated when he was a kid...we can all connect the dots ne?
(...or maybe he fears dispute between Umma Jae and Appa Yunnie ...My Yunjae mind has to stop.)
Jaejoong, the honest and free minded, gets stopped by threatening hands. In the video, it seems like he wants to go pass this hall, but he is barred by hands. I think, this is pretty easy to interpret. Being a free minded man, Jaejoong fears being controlled and being unable to do what he wants. (*cough* SM *cough*).
( On a lighter note, it might be because he fears being molested by his crazy fans..OR...maybe he fears being held by anyone else aside from Yunho.
...I really must stop my yunjae mind)
Lastly, our innocent maknae, who is not exactly our baby anymore, is visited by a mysterious lady. Changmin, being the youngest, never really had a chance to actually "be" with a girl, he said it himself. He has never dated or had a girlfriend. Women are usually a symbolism of sin and temptation. And in the video we can see a sort of curious and distraught look in his face, I guess, this could be interpreted as him being overwhelmed by a world he is not familiar with. It could also be seen as a battle against temptation and vices. remember, about him and all those "videos".
The video doesn’t stop at individual fears. Aside from the one-to-one fears presented, the five had one thing in common throughout the video:
They were alone.
Being alone is their common fear, and being away from each other makes them vulnerable. When they are alone all the fears they have start manifesting. In short, when TVXQ is not together it is a time of darkness. A time of hardships . When they are separated it is when their nightmares resurface. This is why they look like they're trying to escape and it seems like they’re looking for something, my guess is, they’re looking for each other.
The video and song, of course, talks about "breaking out" of this enclosure, enclosure of fears. Breaking out from isolation, isolation from each other. In the whole thing, we can see that the five of them seem to be looking for a flight, and even in the solos, when they’re dancing, it seems that they're fighting off the entities circling them. The song even gives messages of keeping the faith and believing despite the hardships, hinting that they are trying to be together. Telling us they WILL be together.
I believe, in the end, they do break out and reunite. This "gathering" starts to progress when Yunho finally touches the spider and it disappears (don't you think it's a nice symbolism that it's Leader-sshi who starts the change?). The “disappearing-when-being-confronted” thing implies that the fears are merely illusions to keep them away from each other. One can say that when Yunho realizes this when the spider disappears, it becomes the turning point of the video and the rest finally become more aggressive in the search for their freedom. The claim is supported because, after this scene, Tohoshinki's "fighting" against the entities surrounding them also intensify (if you watch their reactions in the dancing solos, their emotions seem to be more vigorous). The next parts, we see old Junsu telling “real” Junsu to break out, I guess this means he's warning young Junsu because he knows what bad things would happen in the future (bad things would happen if he doesn’t break out). Micky also looks as if he's about to turn away from the kids. We also see Jae finding another path and walking away from the hands. By the end of the video he exits the dungeon type location and finally goes towards a brighter place. This leaves us an open ending, implying that he's going to meet the four.
So guys, don't be alarmed that they don't have a scene together. I actually thought it was a classy idea to have them isolated. It conveys the message more dramatically. I love how meaningful the whole thing was.
Instead of breaking out from each other, they are actually breaking out of the isolation from eachother.
Always Keep the Faith."

NOW MY ANALYSIS
Ok @edamame I loooove the way you look at the elements one the video, that is a really accurate way of thinking you have there, tho in some cases isn't like they're showing their fears like literally? like ChangMin? or JaeJoong? tho the conclusion with Jae "breaking out" is quite relieving and it can imply everyone did break out and that's good.
Now, based on your analysis I will say something about each representation of fear ^^
Yunho's spider makes a lot of sense, I would add that spiders (most of them) are poisonous therefore Yunho is afraid of being not only trapped but poisoned by the spider BUT! he doesn't run away from the spider, even though he feels fear, the spider "lures" him into not being that afraid, into trusting, in fact, Yunho isn’t moving, he’s sitting, he’s waiting for something, or maybe thinking about what to do, he doesn’t find the spider, the spider finds him, the spider wants to control him, not someone else, of course, that makes sense since he’s the leader and if he gives up the rest won’t have the strength to break out. Notice something really interesting, Yunho isn’t attacked by the circle of people around him, he isn’t attacked not because he’s special, but because he doesn’t want to get past them, he doesn’t fight, he doesn’t want to get out, maybe the spider does have too much control over him and he’s just trying to get rid of it but he’s a bit helpless.
Junsu, he looks really scared, in fact I would say Junsu is the most scared of them all, he keeps trying to find a way out but he’s doing things erratically, he has no support, he’s all alone and he doesn’t like it, at all, he knows he has to get out of there, he fights and the people there fight back against him, he’s afraid he might become lonely, loose his bright spirit and become a dark person but the older man comes, as in a future - present encounter and basically tells him that if he doesn’t gather the will and the strength to get out he will become what he fears.
Now, YooChun, I totally understand this (I think XD) YooChun finds the kids and smiles because Chunie believes in love but then the kids try to break apart and that not only brings memories of his parents so he gets really scared, wherever they might be someone is trying to play with their minds (Junsu’s fear wasn’t necessarily the old man but more like being alone, leaving him alone is the way to take him out of his right mind leaving him unable to find an exit jfyi) YooChun not only thinks about his parents but about his band members too, he’s afraid they break apart, he’s afraid the love disappears and they split, YooChun is the one who sings “we keep the faith eternally” and in my opinion he’s the one with the most faith, therefore his biggest fear is for them to break up, to be unable to reunite, to lose the faith and the will to continue moving, YooChun deals with the emotions really well, he barely shows any fright, but deep inside he’s really scared, so scared that it’s like a wake-up call, like “I’ve gotta get out of here quick” it is also really interesting the little kids can’t break apart, for some reason that “glue” in their hands appeared to me like the contract they’re under, I don’t know if I make my point.
JaeJoong, ooohhh JaeJoong’s fear is so interesting if you look deeply into it, JaeJoong has a lot of strength, notice he walks without hesitating much, also it is very interesting how Jae is the most aggressive and at the same time the most attacked, because he doesn’t hold back, Jae wants to get out really badly, the situation is taking a toll on him but as long as he is able to make his own decisions without being controlled he is confident he will find the way out, but that’s the problem, as he looks for a way out he walks into a small place in which many hands try to grab him, Jae is really scared over this, why? the meaning of this is that the only way of stopping him is trapping him in a place or in this case situation where he’s unable to do anything and while he is helpless, control him, push him into doing things or thinking things he does not want to do or think, I strongly believe Jae was really close to the exit and the exit was right after that little place, which means he could get out easily, but in order to get out he would have to do as everyone around him says and without making a decision or trying to escape and most importantly, if he went too deep, he wouldn’t be able to come back afterwards and the things he had done would stay with him, so Jae had an exit, but to use it he had to sacrifice things he wouldn’t sacrifice so ultimately he chose to look for another path, a path where the choices were made by him and him only.
ChangMin! Ah, ChangMin, another interesting experience, first of all, Changmin is barely attacked, which implies he did try to get out but being as young and being alone, he retracted from doing so because he felt he wasn’t ready so he just waits, just like Yunho (interesting right? Hmmm… if you know what I mean, why precisely them?) The “trap” stored for him isn’t just a girl just because he’s never been with a girl, but a representation of the things he hasn’t been able to do while being with his band, what I’m trying to say is that the girl lures him into staying (she’s not exactly good, that evil smirk….) because there he will have “no restraints” and he’ll be able to do whatever he wants without thinking about his Hyungs, as long as he stays obviously, he is pushed into thinking fighting back is bad, escaping is bad, as long as he obeys he will be safe (interesting isn’t it?) but that place wants him to become a betrayer, leaving his friends over other things such as the girl, who intends to distract him from what he really wants to do, which is breaking out.
In the end we can see that Jae gets out, maybe the rest hasn’t gotten out yet but how did JaeJoong got out? Trusting his heart, his mind and his soul, listening only to himself and not letting anyone control him (recipe for WIN! Lol XD) what’s next for the rest is to overcome their fears and stay as one even when separated, trust themselves and NOT LET ANYONE CONTROL THEM! *coughcoughSMcough*
So that’s my analysis! ^^ tell me what you think!
