I keep passing along a pair of articles that made me think more about intersections between government policy, food, economics, health, and poverty. There's a lot going on in both of these articles that is definitely worth consindering:

My poor Mississippi...I think part of what draws me there is that it needs more highly-educated people (like myself?) to help it along, rather than abandon it. You know, use what they taught me in FANCY NEW YORK SCHOOL. I dunno--I guess a KITTY DOCTOR won't make the biggest headlines as far as the progression of Mississippi and the South, but who knows what kind of difference I could make? In spite of the higher powers that make it so hard...

Well, look at it this way--the presence of educated, successful, forward-thinking people in a state potentially leads to a better economy, more taxes for social programs, and maybe even a different constituency that will vote for instead of against taking care of its own citizens. That's probably not revolutionary enough for some, but I expect it's better than nothing.

So while these may not be the main reasons I would be tempted to move back South (I'll chalk that up to the family I'm mildly attached to), it's probably an upside of loving where we come from.

And after all, Amanda, scruffy Mississippi kitties deserve good kitty doctors as much as fancy purebred New York kitties. :D

SEE YOU IN TWO WEEKS!!!! (Whaddaya want me to feed you? And what kind of hijinks would you be up for? Errol was mostly un-helpful so far).
