Our birthdays are feathers in the broad wing of time

WHO: Berwald & Sindre
WHEN: 19th May, morning
WHERE: Home
WHAT: Belated birthday gift

The day of Sindre's birthday had arrived faster than Berwald had expected, so much so that he'd failed to finish his gift in time. And then when he'd, rather apprehensively he feared, taken up the matter of doing anything special on thursday, Sindre had given him a knowing look and said Wilm had invited him to dinner, and that they could do something on the weekend instead.

Berwald had agreed, guilty but relieved. After a few nights with little sleep, he'd even gotten to finish the gift, which was now leaning along the wall, covered in cloth since the other option would have been to use an entire roll of wrapping paper. Berwald had instead used a white tablecloth. He didn't think Sindre would mind.

It was a new headboard for their bed. The overall design was fairly simple, with a straight top and divided into four panels, except that he'd carved symmetric patterns into each panel, ones which included symbols which were meant to bring luck and good sleep and other positive things. Berwald had casually asked about them from Sindre one time he visited the store, about a month or two ago, so he'd know which to use.

Sindre was still asleep. He'd stirred when Berwald had gotten up to fetch the gift and make breakfast, but had settled back easily when Berwald had told him to just sleep for a while longer. Now, he set the breakfast laden tray on the night table and leaned over Sindre to lay a hand on his shoulder.

"Morning," Berwald murmured.
